Upper Iowa leads NSIC Men's Golf Championship after first round

Blue Springs, Mo. – Upper Iowa holds a one-stroke lead after the first round of the NSIC Men’s Golf Championship played at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Missouri.  The Peacocks shot a first round of 296 and hold a one stroke lead over second place Concordia-St. Paul (297). The Peacocks have two of the top three golfers while the Golden Bears have two of the top four after 18-holes of the 54-hole championship. 

Upper Iowa's Nolan Leaton and Concordia-St. Paul's Thomas Huettl sit tied atop the leaderboard after their first round 2-under-par 70s.  Nolan ended the first round with an eagle on the par four 11th hole, two birdies, 13 pars, and a pair of bogies. Huettl carded four birdies, 10 pars and two bogies.  

Upper Iowa's Tate Carlson shot an even-par round of 72 to sit alone in third while five players were tied for fourth at 74.  

The second 18-holes of the NSIC Championship will begin on Friday morning with tee-time starts at 9 a.m. The third and final round will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Saturay. The top five golfers will be named NSIC All-Tournament, while the team champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional, which will be played at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana hosted by the University of Indianapolis on May 5-7. The NCAA Championships will be played May 16-20 at the TPC Michigan in Dearborn, Michigan; hosted by Wayne State University and Detroit Sports Commission, hosts.
