ABERDEEN, S.D.  – Day two of the 2022 NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Clark Swisher Field in Aberdeen, South Dakota are in the books after strong winds extended the event into the evening hours. Two records fell on a very windy day in Aberdeen, both on the women’s side.  The championship continues Saturday morning with the men’s pole vault at 9 a.m. inside the Barnett Center, while at 11:00 a.m., field events will begin at Swisher Field, followed by track finals at 1:00 p.m.

After seven men’s events the Wayne State leads with 43.5 points after scoring 18 points in the decathlon, 10.5 in the high jump, eight in the hammer throw, four in the long jump and three in the shot put. MSU Moorhead is second with 43 points while Augustana is third with 41 points.

After eight women’s events, Minnesota State leads with 79 points, with the majority of points coming from 20 in the shot put, 18 in the long jump, and ten in the hammer and 3000m steeplechase. Augustana is second with 42 points while Wayne State is third with 34. 

The first record fell in the first track final of the championship as Winona State’s Lindsay Cunningham ran 34:09.57 in heavy winds to best the 2018 time of 34:12.43 ran by Northern State’s Sasha Hovind.

The second record of the day came in the prelims of the women’s 200m where Minnesota State’s Denisha Cartwright ran 23.70 (wind  -1.6) to best the previous record of 23.98 held by Jeri Domes, Mankato State (1983), Brittany Henderson, Minnesota State (2010) and Ja’Cey Simmons, Minnesota State (2021)
