NSIC Players to Watch & Coaches' Quotes

AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY

We have an excellent mix of young and old with seasoned senior veterans Jadan Graves and Isaac Fink on the perimeter, junior Akoi Akoi at the 4 and bunch of freshmen/sophomores battling for spots as well. We had a great fall of conditioning and have extremely good team chemistry. My staff and I are anxious and excited for the upcoming season!
Head Coach Tom Billeter
Isaac has previously been a second and first team All NSIC honoree. Has scored over 1,000 points in his Augustana career. Fully recovered from last year's knee surgery, has had a great summer and fall of preparation.
Head Coach Tom Billeter

BEMIDJI STATE UNIVERSITY

We have good character guys that want to be successful. I really like the nucleus of the returner's that have played at a high level and on a big stage. Early on we are showing signs of being a team that has good depth which is so important in this conference.
Head Coach Mike Boschee
John is a dynamic post player that can do a little bit of everything. He's a tough matchup for anyone with his ability to shoot, drive and post up.
Head Coach Mike Boschee

CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, ST. PAUL

I am really excited where this team is at. We have a lot of returners and a great group of new additions. We have slowly but surely built our locker room to what it needs to be, to have a chance every night in this league. I am really excited to see what we can accomplish.
Head Coach Matt Fletcher
Antwan is a special young man that has emerged as a leader in our locker room. He brings a great mentality every day and I am excited to see what he accomplishes this season and what he helps us accomplish as a group. He is as dynamic of a guard I have ever seen in the NSIC.
Head Coach Matt Fletcher

UNIVERSITY OF MARY

We have a lot of new faces this year but I have absolutely loved how we have compete this fall. The energy in our program just feels different. We have added a lot of size and athleticism that should help us win basketball games. Last year we played four freshman and our inexperience showed at times. Those guys have shown up with a hunger and a more purposeful drive about them. Blending those guys with our new guys should make us a really competitive group.
Head Coach Jack Nelson
Zyon is coming off of a good initial year with us and is our returning leading scorer. He works as hard as anyone and I know he had a great offseason. I am extremely excited to see his hard work pay off and him have a tremendous senior season. With a year of NSIC play under his belt, I have no doubt that he can help carry our team this year.
Head Coach Jack Nelson

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CROOKSTON

I am excited to see the improvement our team can show, building off the foundation that was set last year. We have a core group of eight returners and have added three transfers as well as three freshman. Every year brings challenges and we will lean on our veteran guys to compete in the league.
Head Coach Bryan Beamish
Blaize is coming off a very solid year in our program and is a leader of this team. He continues to live in the gym and improve his game. I am looking forward to seeing all his hard work pay off this season.
Head Coach Bryan Beamish

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH

Coming off a Central Region Title, we're excited to return all 5 starters and a few very key rotational players as well. After a summer foreign trip to Spain, it was evident the mentality, work ethic & togetherness of our team remains strong. Mattie Thompson & Lincoln Meister continue to improve & played at a high level this summer. Expectations are high in Bulldog Country, but every season is a fresh journey. Our team is excited to compete in the always tough NSIC Conference.
Head Coach Justin Wieck

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO

This year's team excites me because we are a veteran team that has come together quickly on and off the court.
Head Coach Matt Margenthaler
Malik in his fifth year has really matured in every aspect of the game. He's worked extremely hard to become an overall player and not just a scorer. He has the ability to score it at all three levels and has become a positive leader for our program.
Head Coach Matt Margenthaler

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MOORHEAD

I’ve loved being in the gym with the team this pre-season. Our new pieces have meshed well together with our returners. Eager to see some guys step into new roles as we get closer to official competition.
Head Coach Tim Bergstraser
Jacob is one of the most fierce competitors you will come by. He’s a young man that we have a lot of trust in as one of our leaders. With his confidence, competitiveness, selflessness and ability to score in multiple ways it has made him a respected player in the NSIC. He’s an every day kind of guy so it’s an absolute privilege to coach him.
Head Coach Tim Bergstraser

MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY

We return 7 of our top 8 players from last season and love the experience we bring back. We showed great growth throughout the season last year and nearly that entire team returns. We have a team that has fun, competes and just loves the experience of being in our basketball program at Minot State.
Head Coach Matthew Murken
Khari had a strong debut season with us as he led us in scoring (14.1), assists (2.7), steals (1.3) and was 3rd on the team in rebounding (4.0). He competed on both ends and impacts the game for us in nearly every way.
Head Coach Matthew Murken

NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY

This year's team has a lot of returning players that have played in a lot of high leverage moments. We have length at all our positions and share the ball well with each other. We can stretch the floor as we have multiple players with deep shooting range. Our locker room is a tight knit group and works exceptionally hard. We are excited to for our journey together in the coming months.
Head Coach Saul Phillips
Jacksen is a special player. His length, skill, shooting and passing ability are unique. He is an extremely fast learner and a dream to coach. On top of that, Jacksen has a steady pulse at the biggest moments. It's unusual to see a player at his size to have such a broad skill set. He is amongst the best in the NSIC and all of DII.
Head Coach Saul Phillips

University of Sioux Falls

I am excited about the mix of 4 returning starters and multiple newcomers that will impact our team. We have a lot of size and good depth as well. We have good positional flexibility and skill both inside and out. This group has worked hard, bought into our culture, and really improved thus far. I am excited to see where this group can go this upcoming year.
Head Coach Chris Johnson
Jack is the heart and soul of our team on both ends of the floor. He has been a great leader for our program since he stepped on campus. We rely on him to guard the other team's best players on the perimeter, and this year we will ask him to score even more than in the past. Jack is a great competitor and winner and he will definitely lead our team this year.
Head Coach Chris Johnson

Southwest Minnesota State University

This year's team should have high expectations. With the amount of upperclassman we have it gives us a chance to be one of the older teams in the league. The fall went by fast. Like everyone, we are excited about the early practice start. We set up a tough non-conference schedule so that will test us before we enter into the NSIC. Look forward to another competitive season in the NSIC. Never a dull moment.
Head Coach Brad Bigler
Jake is a great success story. His development over his career has been fun to watch. He truly is a guy who had to earn everything. Proud of how much work he put in during the offseason. He has always been a reliable person on and off the floor. Any recognition is well deserved.
Head Coach Brad Bigler

St. Cloud State University

I am excited about the growth potential of this young group. We likely have the youngest team in Division 2 this year, and so development will be key. The NSIC is an incredibly competitive league and our resiliency will be tested. I am optimistic about the future of this group and the direction we are headed.
Head Coach Quincy Henderson
Luke had a tremendous finish to the 2023 season. His on-court progression has been fun to watch and his work ethic has been impeccable. He received the Myles Brand award for academic excellence a season ago. He is an exemplary student and citizen. We are fortunate to have him back in his grad year and look forward to his continued contributions to the program.
Head Coach Quincy Henderson

Wayne State College

Although we lost our four top scorers and three 5th year seniors, surprisingly my first comment is that we are still an experienced team. We have six players on our roster who are in their 4th season who have all been a part of our rotation in the past. I think the new players we have on our roster will meet the specific needs that our team has based on the strengths of our returners. We will have one of our most athletic and versatile teams during my time as the coach at Wayne State. I am excited about the versatility that our team has on the defensive end and the balance we can have offensively. We will have several players taking on expanded roles this season. I am looking forward to that.
Head Coach Jeff Kaminsky
Not only is Alec a really good player, he is an outstanding leader. In his first season (20-21), Alec was honorable mention all-conference. He played injured much of his sophomore season and missed last year entirely with a season ending surgery. Alec is healthy and ready to have an impactful season. He can change the game with his defensively ability, passing, and scoring. He truly makes everyone else around him better.
Head Coach Jeff Kaminsky

Winona State University

We are excited about our returning group of players who have worked extremely hard this fall to give us a chance to be improved this season. We return 3 starters in Connor Dillon, Connor Drew and Declan Dillon who will all need to take on a leadership role, along with our expectations of a more consistent production at both ends of the floor. We added 8 new players to our roster, with several showing the potential to help Warrior Basketball right away.
Head Coach Todd Eisner
Connor had an outstanding season for WSU Basketball in '22-'23. He is an exciting scorer who can create his own shot and is a threat from the 3pt line or when attacking with the dribble. We will need Connor to again score at a high level and continue to develop his all-around game on both ends of the floor for our team to have a chance to be successful.
Head Coach Todd Eisner
