Bemidji State wins NSIC Men's Golf Championship

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – Bemidji State won the NSIC Men's Golf Championship, holding off Winona State by one stroke, to earn its 16th NSIC title, its first since 2000.  The Beavers had four players in the top seven, including three earning NSIC All-Tournament Team honors by finishing in the top five. 

Winona State's Gabe Goodman earned medalist honors after entering the final round with a four-stroke lead. He carded a 73 (+1) during day three and earned medalist honors by finishing six strokes ahead of the field. Goodman shot rounds of 71-69-73 to be the only competitor to finish under par for the championships with a total score of 213 (-3). En route to the impressive three-under-par finish, Goodman led the field with 14 birdies and also led the field in scoring average on Par 3s (E) and Par 5s (-8).

BSU's Caden Lick and Rylin Petry tied for second as they finished 3-over-par at 219.  Lick shot rounds of 74-73-72 while Petry had rounds of 74-74-71. Logan Schoepp  finished fifth as he shot rounds of 74-74-72 to finish 4-over-par at 220.  All three earned all-tournament honors. Ben Corbid finished in seventh as he shot three rounds of 74 to finish 6-over-par at 222. 

Minnesota State's Jack Klimek tied for second with a three-round score of 71-76-72—219.  Klimek shot even par Sunday finishing with three birdies to go with 12 pars.  For the weekend, Klimek played the par-3s to a scoring average of 3.08, which was the second best in the field.  He finished the par fours at 4.13, which was the fourth best tally. His 11 birdies on the weekend led the Mavericks and was tied for the third highest in the field as he also joined the all-tournament field. 

Bemidji State earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional, which will be played on May 11-13 at The Bridges Golf Course in Winona, Minnesota; hosted by Winona State University. The entire field for the NCAA Men's Golf Championships will be announced Friday, April 28 on NCAA.com.
