2023 NSIC COACHES' QUOTES / PLAYERS TO WATCH

AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY

We are going to look a little different this year than we have in the past couple of years. While we graduated some major point makers, we have a slew of players ready to take their game to the court. While many may think we are young, the players are ready to step in and take on the primary roles that have been training in our gym for years now. I’m excited to see how our team embraces the new look and feel, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the maturity and demeanor this group will bring.
Head Coach Jennifer Jacobs
Erika has been a staple in our passing and offensive game the past four years. She is an incredibly smart athlete who is light on her feet and commands the court. Off the court, she is an exceptional human being. Erika is vice president of Augustana Athletics SAAC and played an integral role in putting on our Ole Awards, our department-wide celebration at the end of the year. She is one of those people and players who is irreplaceable, and we are excited she has decided to stay for this season!
Head Coach Jennifer Jacobs

BEMIDJI STATE UNIVERSITY

Bemidji State enters the fall of 23 with great anticipation for the season. Our upperclassmen have paved the way for progress within the league and their experience will be on display in a number of primary positions in our rotation. Balancing the upperclassmen experience is the skill in our younger athletes. Our sophomores have learned a lot in the past year and are ready to compete for big roles and our freshman class is very exciting; they have a passion for the game and for being a part of a bright future in the history of Bemidji State Volleyball.
Head Coach Kevin Ulmer
Hallie brings experience and competitiveness to our team as she enters her 3rd season of competition in the NSIC. An offensive threat on the left and from the back row, she is not only a great player and teammate but a great student as well. Hallie is pursuing a degree in Biology with the hopes of starting medical school in the future. She represents the effort, competitiveness, and resiliency that we hope to see in all our players at Bemidji State.
Head Coach Kevin Ulmer

CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, ST. PAUL

This year's team excites me because I felt like we were really starting to find another level towards the end of last season and with most of our team back we are hopeful that we can continue that trend. With our team being so experienced they really have a great appreciation for how difficult our conference and region are and the grind that it takes to do well.
Head Coach Brady Starkey
Jaz has been a huge part of our offense her entire career and we will look to her to continue that this season. With other teams having to focus a lot of energy on defending her, it opens up our offense for other players to hit at a high efficiency. She also brings the competitive energy to our team that is infectious with her teammates.
Head Coach Brady Starkey

UNIVERSITY OF MARY

I am really looking forward to this season! We return a lot of experience and I’m really proud of the steps this group took in the off-season. It’s a great group of young women, and it will continue to be a blessing to spend each day in the gym with them!
Head Coach Abby Pollart
Nehkyah has been a consistent force for us the last couple of seasons. She has worked really hard to develop her all-around game, and consistently gives everything she has to her teammates. I’m looking forward to seeing her round out her career this fall and continue to grow as a great human and teammate.
Head Coach Abby Pollart

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CROOKSTON

We have a large, talented incoming class that we could not be more excited about. There will be new traditions, standards, and goals this year that hopefully put us where we think we can be. We can't wait to see how the team comes together in the short amount of time before the games start this season!
Head Coach Nick Meseck
Audrey has been great for our program since she came aboard last year. She earned a spot as a captain for the upcoming year as a sophomore by leading on and off the court. I know it's cliché, but she really is the first to the gym, and the last to leave. We are excited to see where she will lead us this year.
Head Coach Nick Meseck

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH

This team returns a large portion of our 2022 roster and starting lineup and they will be pushing hard to improve on last year's success. We will have some very competitive battles for on court opportunities and that will make for an exciting practice environment. And as always, the NSIC will be challenging and competitive which will make for a fun season.
Head Coach Jim Boos
Madison will serve as our on and off the court leader using her years of experience to help guide our team through the rigors of the NSIC. Madison brings a competitive spirit and high standards to the gym and will push this team to work hard and improve every day. As the key decision maker for our offense, she will use her knowledge and experience to run the show.
Head Coach Jim Boos

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO

We made some big changes this spring that we believe will improve our competitiveness in the conference and region. Our team continues to learn what it takes to be more consistent with the top teams in the NSIC and beyond.
Head Coach Corey Phelps
Elizabeth has made solid strides in her play this spring. As a result, her confidence and ability to play at a high level have improved a great deal. Her attacking efficiency and ball control are improving consistently. We are excited about the direction her play is going and the impact she’ll have on those around her as her leadership grows on and off the court.
Head Coach Corey Phelps

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MOORHEAD

This season there will be a lot of new, with both players and coaches so it will be exciting to see our team come together and grow. The returners had a great spring semester where they raised their level of play, so we will look to build on that and continue to get better one day at a time.
Head Coach Kari Thompson
Bridget is a leader for our team both on and off the court. She has made an extra effort in the off-season to improve both her physical strength and volleyball skill and I'm looking forward to seeing what she does with our team this upcoming season. She is the player that everyone loves playing with because of the intensity and energy she brings to the court.
Head Coach Kari Thompson

MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY

This team excites me because of the hard work, dedication and ambition they showed during Spring ’23. There was a huge amount of skill development and maturity and we are anxious to see utilized this fall. With the 11 returners, and 4 transfer athletes, we are looking to be more competitive compared to previous years.
Head Coach Alexandra Lehocky
Maggie is joining us from New Mexico Junior College where she received Region V All-Conference honors for both her freshman and sophomore year. She is a 6 rotation OH, has high volleyball IQ, and brings enthusiasm to every point. We are looking forward to having her as a Minot State Beaver and excited to see how she does in the NSIC.
Head Coach Alexandra Lehocky

NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY

What excites me about the season is the challenge of taking a very young team into the nation's No. 1 Division II volleyball conference and competing at the highest standard possible. We are looking to grow as a team exponentially with each opportunity. The depth we have at each position will be key in our training and overall development as the season progresses.
Head Coach Brent Aldridge
Keri graduated this spring with her undergraduate degree in Education. She will obtain her master's in education degree over the next two years. Keri is a wonderful volleyball player, student athlete but an even better person. We will look for her leadership again as a Captain. During her career so far, Keri has made some very good changes in her game and is always looking to improve her skill set.
Head Coach Brent Aldridge

UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS

Last season, USF was a young team with four freshman starters. Despite a difference in experience, we were able to find success against some excellent opponents. Although we are still a relatively young team this year, we are a team with improved experience and maturity. I am excited to see this team learn and grow as our younger team members develop into more complete volleyball players, including a very talented group of incoming freshmen.
Head Coach Dan Mathews
With her performance on the court, her dedication to her teammates, and her commitment to academics, Jordan Kuper has been a strong leader on our team for the past two years. As an upperclassman, Jordan is now stepping into a more vocal leadership position and serving as a true role model for our younger players. Jordan succeeds as a person, student, and athlete because she has a genuine love for the sport of volleyball and the community which surrounds it. This quality is what makes her so fun to coach in training and to watch in competition.
Head Coach Dan Mathews

SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY

We have a really nice group of student-athletes this year and I think they will work really hard in the classroom and on the court. I am looking forward to the competition we will have in each position.
Head Coach Tyler Boddy
Alisa is a great leader for us and brings a lot of experience and competitiveness to our team. She is a great athlete and has been a wonderful mentor for teammates around her. She has committed to playing her fifth year with us and we look forward to what she can continue to provide to our program.
Head Coach Tyler Boddy

ST. CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY

I am excited to see our younger student-athletes get a chance to step up as we’ve lost some players with a plethora of playing experience. I thought we had a fantastic spring and learned a lot about ourselves. These women have put in a ton of work since the spring season ended and I'm excited to see who will step up and help us on continue to be successful!
Head Coach Chad Braegelmann
Kenzie is an extremely terminal player who has the ability to score points in every facet of the game. Her ability to score from the service line, on her swings and at the block have made her quite the offensive threat for our team. She’s taken big steps forward in focusing on her back row defense, helping her become a premier defender. She has been one of our best passers her first two seasons. I am excited to continue to see her flourish in this upcoming season.
Head Coach Chad Braegelmann

WAYNE STATE COLLEGE

We have quite a few returners off of last year's team that won a conference championship, and we are hoping to keep improving as the season goes on.
Head Coach Scott Kneifl
Taya is a dynamic Middle that is extremely effective off of one foot. We are excited to see what she and our team can accomplish this year.
