NSIC Players to Watch & Coaches' Quotes

AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY

We bring back four guys who have a lot of playing time and experience in Akoi, Caden Hinker, Sam Rensch and Brady Helgren, but also have a ton of new faces. The competitiveness, energy and attention to detail in our workouts and practices have been great so far this pre-season. We have depth and versatility along with a lot of guys who can really shoot the ball and stretch the floor. We will need to continue to gel and grow together on both ends of the floor over the coming months, but I am fired up about the guys we have inside our locker room.
Head Coach Cody Schilling
Akoi is now a fifth year senior and the leader of our program. The work ethic, effort and energy that he brings to practice on a daily basis is something that lifts up, motivates, challenges and pushes everyone around him. His length, versatility, athleticism and IQ make him a big time asset for us. Akoi is ready to take a big step on the court this season. I'm excited to coach him and watch him lead the Vikings this upcoming year.
Head Coach Cody Schilling

BEMIDJI STATE UNIVERSITY

I really like the depth that this team is showing early in the season. We feel like we have more experience, maturity, and leadership. We have a little more athleticism and versatility which will help us in this difficult conference.
Head Coach Mike Boschee
John has proven he is one of the best players in the NSIC over the last few years. He is a gifted offensive player who will be counted on in that regard. We will need him to continue to develop and become a more complete player on both ends of the floor for us to reach our potential as a team.
Head Coach Mike Boschee

CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, ST. PAUL

With 15 players returning, our locker room is as tight as it gets. We are old, experienced, and really looking to have a great season after the tough situations we dealt with last year. We have the leadership, talent, and athletic ability to compete every night. This team is a lot of fun to coach!
Head Coach Matt Fletcher
Antwan is back healthy and looks better than ever. Being injured last year, he got to see things from a different perspective. His trust for his guys around him and his growth within the system we run has been very fun to watch! Excited to see him compete again this season!
Head Coach Matt Fletcher

UNIVERSITY OF MARY

I’m incredibly excited about this year’s team because of the passion and dedication I’ve seen from each player. The team’s chemistry is already strong, and their work ethic is evident. We’ve got a great mix of experienced leaders and hungry newcomers, all focused on pushing each other to new levels. I can’t wait to see how their commitment translates to success on the court.
Head Coach Jack Nelson
Kevin has made a tremendous impact on our team in a very short period of time. He brings a wealth of basketball experience and that shows. Physically he will be one of the faster players in the NSIC but more than anything he has brought a great deal of leadership to our program. He will be someone we can rely on over the course of the season. I am excited to see how he continues to develop and raise our level of play.
Head Coach Jack Nelson

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CROOKSTON

I believe we have a group of guys that are hungry and willing to work to be able to compete in this league. We have added depth at every position which will make our practices more competitive. This year we have a good amount of NSIC experience with returning players which we are going to need to lean on. Our coaching staff has been pleased with preseason workouts and look forward to getting the season started in November.
Head Coach Bryan Beamish
Reid is coming off a very good year as a junior. He has put in a lot of work over the summer in the weight room as well as on the court. His leadership ability mixed with his high IQ and feel for the game, will help our program continue to make strides in the right direction. Reid's ability to make those around him better will be very important for our team's success.
Head Coach Bryan Beamish

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH

This team is a great mixture of returning established veterans, younger role players who are looking to take a big step forward, four true Freshmen, two red-shirt freshmen and two transfers. I'm excited to coach these guys, to see our new guys step into some of the big moments of our season, and continue to compete in the best league in the country. Our depth should help us on a nightly basis. We have a lot of different weapons on the offensive end, but we should have a chance to be one of the better defensive teams I've coached here at Duluth. I'm looking forward to the season & finding the identity of this group.
Head Coach Justin Wieck
Charlie has been our do-it-all difference maker for the past 4 seasons. His ability to guard multiple positions at a high level led him to NSIC Defensive POY award last season. His ability to score in many ways makes him one of the tougher matchups in our league. Building off his 1st Team All-NSIC performance last year, I'm looking forward to his final go-around in a Bulldog uniform.
Head Coach Justin Wieck

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO

This year's team has great length and has had great energy so far. I like the fact that we have some returners that have college experience along with the a few transfers that will fit nicely in the mix.
Head Coach Matt Margenthaler
Kyreese has had three solid years and is looking to make his senior year the best so far. He's worked extremely hard in the off season and is ready to have his best season yet.

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MOORHEAD

We lost a few impact players that did some incredible things for our program last year. Going into this season we are excited with the overall roster that we have with returning veterans, transfers and incoming freshmen. Eager to see how we put the pieces together and compete with the league that is very skilled top to bottom.
Head Coach Tim Bergstraser
Confident to say Jacob has earned a lot of respect throughout the league. The young man plays with so much effort & passion every single night. As a program, we rely on him to do a lot for us on both sides of the ball and he handles it extremely well. Excited to see how things go for him as a sixth year Dragon.
Head Coach Tim Bergstraser

MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY

We are coming off a great year and lost some key members of our team, but this year's roster has as much talent and athleticism as we have ever had. We have a lot of players that compete on a daily basis and play the game with great enthusiasm.
Head Coach Matthew Murken
Jaxon has been a consistent contributor for us the past two season. He has scored the ball at a high rate, as shown by his over 800 career points and more than 200 made three pointers. In his last two seasons, Jaxon has made tremendous growth in his leadership, his commitment to winning and in his overall mental approach to the game. It means a lot for him to wear the Minot State jersey and he will compete at a high level in everything he undertakes.
Head Coach Matthew Murken

NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY

This team has been a lot of fun to be around so far this year. We have a bunch of new faces, and they are fitting together nicely so far. I am excited about the watching this team grow and have high expectations about where we can get to. Our backcourt appears to be a strength early and we have a physical and long group up front. Building chemistry and trust early on will be important.
Head Coach Saul Phillips
Mike is an explosive and versatile player who can impact the game in a lot of ways. He shoots it well from deep and is capable of big finishes at the rim. On the defensive end, he can defend multiple positions at a high level. Mike has worked hard for two years as a role player and it's time for him to take the next step.
Head Coach Saul Phillips

University of Sioux Falls

We have a very tight knit group, they genuinely love playing together. I get excited about the fact that we have added depth, length and athleticism to this roster. We have 7 seniors, which helps immensely on the leadership front. I think we have multiple guys who can lead us in scoring on any given night, and I think we have the depth and talent to do multiple things on the defensive side of the ball. I'm excited to get going with this group.
Head Coach Chris Johnson
Noah has been a very important player to our program for the last 5 years, we ask a lot of him on both sides of the court. He is a very good passer who makes those around him better, but he also has the ability to score as he was our second leading scorer a season ago. He has taken a bigger leadership role this year as well. He played his best basketball for us last year so far, and we expect another jump from him this season.
Head Coach Chris Johnson

Southwest Minnesota State University

We have five returning players who were in the rotation last year. All of those guys are ready to take on bigger roles. With the addition of Steven Kramer that gives us another guy who has experience. We have some great competition right now for those last few spots. Calvin Buss will have some highlight dunks this year! Caleb Schlaak and Matt Thompson are veterans ready to crack the lineup too. This NSIC season will be full of entertaining games. We are ready to get started.
Head Coach Brad Bigler
Dunwa was a low scholarship guy coming out of high school. From the moment he stepped on campus during the COVID year to now he has been one of our hardest workers. He has earned everything and more. We appreciate how he has went about his business on and off the floor. He has been a joy to coach. He competes daily and is as complete of a player as any guard in the league.
Head Coach Brad Bigler

St. Cloud State University

We have a strong group of returners that logged significant minutes last year, and they are complemented but a competent group of freshmen. They have a workman’s mentality and that bodes well in all aspects of life. The NSIC has proven time and again to be one of the elite conferences in the country and we are excited to tackle the nightly challenges of playing in this league.
Head Coach Quincy Henderson
Lucas had a great freshman year with the program. He was asked to do a lot on both the offensive and defensive end and statistically performed very well. He’s had a great approach to improving his game throughout, and we look forward to another year of his growth.
Head Coach Quincy Henderson

Wayne State College

We return four fifth year seniors who have been in our program all five years. Three of them (Jay Saunders, Sean Stokes, & Cody McCullough) are returning starters from last season. Noah Ericson played valuable minutes off the bench. We are excited about the mix of experienced returners and a talented group of newcomers including five freshmen and one transfer.
Head Coach Jeff Kaminsky
Jay will be our starting point guard for the 5th consecutive year. He has been the starting point guard for us on two NSIC South Division championship teams. He has been our best defensive player the past two seasons and should take on an expanded role on the offensive end this year. He is one of the best leaders we have had in our program.
Head Coach Jeff Kaminsky

Winona State University

This will be a year in transition as we only return one starter (Connor Drew) and one part-time starter (Devon Fielding) from last year's team. We will need Connor & Devon to make a positive jump in their production as upperclassmen. I am excited about the development of our redshirt freshmen and really like the pieces we have added in this recruiting class to come in and help our program immediately.
Head Coach Todd Eisner
Connor has been a three-year starter for our program and has been a valuable contributor on both ends of the floor. His work ethic and competitiveness show up on a daily basis and we will now need him to be a leader for our team with 10 new players on our roster. Connor brings great value to how we play as he is a threat to score in the paint and from the three-point line and he is also outstanding in our ball screen coverage on defense. I look forward to Connor having an outstanding senior year for the Warriors.
Head Coach Todd Eisner
