MINNESOTA STATE CLAIMS TOP SPOT IN NSIC WOMEN'S INDOOR PRESEASON COACHES' POLL

BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Fresh off its fifth straight NSIC Indoor Championship last year, Minnesota State was picked to win the NSIC in the preseason women's indoor track & field coaches' poll. The Mavericks received all 13 first place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team) and tallied 169 points, ranking them ahead of the University of Mary, which was second with 151 points. Augustana was third with 145 points and the other first place vote.  

Minnesota State's Adeyah Brewster (track) and Sioux Falls' Emily Swanson (field) were voted by the coaches as the preseason athletes of the year. 

The 2024-25 NSIC Indoor Track & Field season gets underway this weekend with the regular season culminating on Friday-Saturday, February 23 and March 1 at the NSIC Championship held at Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, Minnesota, hosted by Minnesota State University, Mankato.  The entire NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championship will air live on the NSIC Network; a day pass can be purchased for $10, while full access to both days of competition is available for $15.00.

Adeyah Brewster (Sprints, Sr., St. Michael, Barbados / The Combermere School) - Minnesota State
  • NCAA Division II Central All-Region in the 60m hurdles
  • Placed second in 60m hurdle finals at NCAA Division II Indoor Championships with time of 8.38 
  • Placed second in 60m hurdles at NSIC Indoor Championships and fourth in 60m dash
  • Placed fourth in long jump and fourth in 60 meter dash at NSIC Indoor Championships

Emily Swanson (Multis, 5th, Odell, Neb. / Diller-Odell Secondary HS) - Sioux Falls
  • Won the NSIC pentathlon with 3,740 in 2023-24
  • Earned All-Region honors in the pentathlon 
  • Earned Second Team All-American honors in the pentathlon with a ninth place finish with 3,790 points
  • Placed 13th at NCAA Outdoor Championship in the heptathlon with 5,123 points
  • Placed 19th at NCAA Outdoor Championships in the high jump at 1.61m
Emily is the returning NSIC Champion in the pentathlon, fourth in the high jump, and fifth in the 60m hurdles. She is also coming off of NCAA Second Team All-American honor in the pentathlon. Emily set school records in the pentathlon, and 60 hurdles. When it comes to work ethic and drive, Emily is unrivaled. She is always looking to improve in the various events associated with the pentathlon. The growth she has shown has been astounding. USF women will rely on her experience and leadership.

Our team graduated some big pieces, but they as a whole are ready to step up. Not only do they understand the value of persistence and working through challenges, but they also foster a supportive environment in training which builds team connectedness.

We are excited at the prospect of numerous conference champions and national qualifiers in this year's team. Additionally, we have a great group of freshman and sophomores and look forward to seeing their development this upcoming season.

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH - 5th

Our women's team is probably deeper than it has been in the last five years, especially in the sprints and middle distance/distance events. With that comes a fantastic practice atmosphere where there is plenty of opportunity to grow into an elite conference team. We also have some exciting newcomers who we hope are high impact this indoor season.

Savannah is a returning NCAA provisional qualifier in the 800M and DMR. At last year's indoor conference meet she was all-conference in the 800M and DMR and also a main contributor to our 4x4. Savannah's middle distance range will be high impact for our team at a national and conference level again her senior season!

Erin is our top returner for women's jumps after making finals in the triple jump at the conference meet last spring as a freshman. Erin has the right recipe to be a high impact jumpers and conference contributor for the Bulldogs this season.

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO - 1st

Many new faces with key returners should bring another successful season as the women of Mankato look to cement themselves as one of the top teams nationally in the 2024-25 season.

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MOORHEAD - 9th

Our team has depth and versatility across multiple events. We have returning athletes who’ve broken school records and experience at the NCAA championships, setting a strong foundation for the season. Our new additions bring even more talent, particularly in the sprints and jumps, where we’re poised to make a real impact. The energy and focus in practice has been outstanding. Our combination of talent, work ethic, makes me confident we’re poised for a standout season.

Shavantae spent 2024 rewriting MSUM’s record books in both the 60m and 200m. Last season, she clocked the second-fastest 60m time in school history and was a conference point scored in both the 60m and 200m at the NSIC Indoor Championships. Beyond her talent, she’s a dedicated and driven athlete who sets a high standard for herself and her teammates. We’re excited to see her build on last year’s success and bring that same intensity to the 2025 indoor season. I’m confident she’ll be a force to be reckoned with this year.

Tylah has an impressive background as a three-time Bahamian high jump national champion. Last year, she set a national high school record in high jump and was named the 2024 most outstanding female athlete, which speaks to her skill and consistency. With personal bests of 5-04 in high jump and 19-04 in long jump, she brings exceptional talent and experience to our team. We’re excited to see how she transitions to collegiate competition and believe her impact will be immediate, especially with her dedication and competitive drive.

Sidra is primed for a big senior track season as she comes off of the cross country season. After making the 800m finals at outdoor conference last spring, I believe she's ready to take the next step and be one of the top 800m runners in the conference. She has worked extremely hard and in her training, and brings the same effort to her academics. She's a great influence for the younger athletes, and I'm excited to watch her hard work pay off.

Kaydee has had a great fall of training and we look forward to seeing her progression in the horizontal jumps and hurdles. She has come in as a true freshman and is one of the hardest working girls in her training.

NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY - 7th

We are a young squad with some key veteran upperclassmen returning this indoor season. We look to be strong in the vault, sprints, multi, and distance crew. We are hoping to build off of a great fall training season and improve our placing amongst team rankings.

Summer is coming off her first ever cross-country season and is in the best shape of her life. We look for her to be a threat in the mid-distance events. She is excited for the indoor season, and we can't wait to see how she performs.

UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS - 4th

We return almost our entire squad from a year ago. We bring back a wealth of experience and talent while adding depth to our team though a dynamic freshmen class. This diverse pool of athletes has the ability to make an impact in all different event groups. Our women look to make a statement at the championship meet.

Khot is the returning NSIC 3000m champion, runner up in the mile, and fourth place in the DMR. She was also Second Team All-American in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Khot set school records in the 3k, mile, and DMR. When it comes to diligence in training, Khot is unrivaled. She shows up to practice and works hard, looking to push herself to be her best and pushing the teammates around her to be better. She always does the small things.

SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY - 13th

With a large group of upperclassmen and freshmen, this group has worked well together in fall training. I am excited to see what will happen as the season progresses.

Sierra enters her senior season with a number of goals before she completes her career as a Mustang. She has placed in an individual event at the NSIC Indoor or Outdoor Championships since she has been a freshman. Her hope is to knock off more records this upcoming season.

Nadia capped off the 2024 indoor season with a NSIC runner-up finish and NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the shot put. As she enters her final campaign with the Mustangs, she is hoping to improve her marks and see where it takes her.

WAYNE STATE COLLEGE - 11th

This year's team will have quite a few new faces who will be looked upon to help lead our team. We graduated a large senior class last year, so it definitely will be a mix of returners and newcomers working to help score for the team. It is always interesting to see who steps up and makes the biggest impact on the team each year!

Anna is a tough competitor, who rises to the challenge when the NSIC Meet comes around. She is versatile in her abilities and has a chance to reach a new level this year. She has experience on her side now as a junior, so that will be an additional tool that she can rely on this year. It should be fun to see how the season turns out for Anna.

We're really excited about the make-up of this year's team. We have a very talented and motivated older group that's been working hard and are good leaders, as well as a very exciting group of newcomers that will add a lot to this year's team across events.
