Minnesota State wins fourth straight NSIC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship

MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato made it four straight NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships as the Mavericks amassed 228.5 points to win by 95 points over second place University of Mary. This marks the seventh indoor women’s championship for the Mavericks.  The University of Mary scored 133.5 points while Augustana was third with 123 points. Six records were set during this year’s championship. 

MSU’s Denisha Cartwright earned high point performer for the third year in a row as she amassed 30 points at the championship as she set three NSIC records in winning the 60m dash (7.23), the 60m hurdles (7.93) and the 200m dash (23.68). Her hurdles time was also the NCAA Division II record and ranks as the 23rd fastest time in NCAA history at any division. Teammate Flore Gracia won the triple jump with a leap of 42-9.75 (13.05m) to break the 2022 mark of 12.87m set by UMary’s D’Andra Morris. 

The first record to fall on Saturday was in the first track event as Kaylee Beyer of Winona State ran 4:38.20 to eclipse the 2017 time of 4:41.88 run by UMD’s Emilee Trost in 2017.   
 
The University of Mary’s Elizabeth Acheson ran 2:11.06 in the 800m run to break the 2019 mark of 2:11.11 ran by Monique McPherson of UMary.
 
The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the NSIC Indoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Indoor Track & Field Athletes and Coaches of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org.
 
The NCAA National Championships will take place on March 8-9 at Robert W. Plaster Center  in Pittsburg, Kansas. The field of student-athletes participating will be announced on Tuesday, February 27 at by 5 p.m.
