SEASON PREVIEWS & ATHLETES TO WATCH

AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY

Our team returns a solid core and some promising newcomers. We are focused on getting back to the NCAA Championships, and we will be relentless in that pursuit. We should have good frontrunners, but our success is always dependent on our team depth and I am intrigued to see how that plays out

CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, ST. PAUL

I'm incredibly excited about the potential of this year's men's cross country team. We have a seasoned group of runners who have been laying the groundwork for success. Their experience and leadership are invaluable assets to the team. Coupled with their consistent improvement, I'm confident that we can elevate our performance to new heights. This team's unwavering work ethic and dedication to the sport create a powerful foundation for achieving our goals.
Head Coach Jonathan Breitbarth
Owen's journey is a testament to his exceptional talent and relentless dedication, culminating in breaking school records in the 5000m and 10,000m. His NSIC championship in the 10,000m last season highlights his ability to excel at the highest level of our conference. Owen's consistent improvement and outstanding performances embody the well-rounded student-athlete we nurture at Concordia University, St. Paul, making him an inspiration to his teammates and a key figure in our team's success.
Head Coach Jonathan Breitbarth

UNIVERSITY OF MARY

What excites me most about this year is having more than six men on the team which adds a bit more depth than the year prior. We are a very young, but hungry group looking to make a dent in the NSIC. Time will tell how the young guys will respond to a competitive conference. Last year, on paper, we should've been behind 10th in the NSIC Championship, but with a lot of training, belief, and discipline we soared a lot higher than expected. I am hoping we can continue that notion while having more team members.
Head Coach Chris Lessard
Caleb was our top performer last year in cross with an incredible jump in fitness towards the back half of the season. He was one of only two men from the NSIC that were All-Region, which showed his tenacity to race at a high level. Caleb is a hard worker who, when consistent, could be an elite athlete and could have an incredible showing this year.

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CROOKSTON

Each year since the program started in 2019, our team 8k average time has decreased. This year the trend should continue as we are returning our top six runners from last year’s team and added three talented incomers. Our two seniors, Tristan Morneault and Colton Uber, have great leadership qualities and have helped build this program from the ground up. I can't wait to see what the team will be able to accomplish this season!
Head Coach Steven Krouse
Connor emerged as the frontrunner of our men’s cross country team and was our top finisher in every race last year as a sophomore. On the course, Connor had a breakout season and improved his 8k personal best by 1:30. Following another spring and summer of hard work, I am looking forward to seeing what Connor is able to accomplish as a junior!
Head Coach Steven Krouse

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH

The Bulldogs are primed for an exceptional season this fall. We have a nice balance of both seasoned veterans who bring crucial championship experience along with talented newcomers who will look to make an impact right away. I'm proud of the consistency and dedication they all have for one another and I'm excited to see all the great things this squad will do!
Head Coach Brette Jensen
Jack had a standout year in the NSIC last fall. He finished in the top 10 and is our top returner from our runner-up team in 2023 where he is poised to repeat that success this year. He brings both experience and determination to the forefront this year as well. Jack had a phenomenal track season which will undoubtedly propel him further. We are thrilled by Jack's progress over the past few years and eagerly anticipate the contributions he will make this fall!
Head Coach Brette Jensen

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO

This year we have a good mix of upperclassmen and newcomers who will quickly make the transition to competing in the NSIC. We welcome a dynamic group of Freshman runners into the group this year which will add to the competitiveness we will bring to practices and meets. I am excited to get everyone back on campus to see what we can put together this year.
Head Coach Ben Held
Adam has progressed every season he has competed in and been an integral part of our top 7 the past years. With a solid summer training block, he will look to finish in the top 10 of a competitive NSIC and help push all of his teammates forward.
Head Coach Ben Held

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MOORHEAD

Our men's team is poised for a strong 2024 campaign, with six of our top seven runners from 2023 returning. Colin O'Farrell, who had a breakthrough track season, will be back to racing this fall alongside a talented group of freshmen and transfers who will be competing for spots in our top seven.
Head Coach Ryan Milner
Adnew had an exceptional 2023-24 season, beginning with him earning First Team All-Conference honors at the 2023 NSIC Cross Country Championships. As he enters his final season as a Dragon, we're excited to see him continue as a strong front runner for our team and build on his impressive achievements from last year.
Head Coach Ryan Milner

MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY

I'm excited to see who is going to step up on this team and take over our top 2 finisher spots. I expect it will be fierce competition and I suspect there are a handful of guys who think they can do it. We will need guys to feed on that if we are going to get where we want to go.
Head Coach Steven Schultz
Grayson is exactly what you would hope to get in a senior. He is a great athlete, student, leader, and person. Extremely tough, he is not going to be beaten in a battle of will and grit.
Head Coach Steven Schultz

NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY

Our team is coming off of our highest team finishes in the NSIC from this past indoor & outdoor season, which has our distance squad eager to build off of that momentum. We have a strong contingent of returners with seniors Alto and Jon Burkhalter, along with other members of our scoring five from a year ago with Evan Halbe, Taylor Thorson and Jacob Angerhofer. We’ve also got a strong recruiting class coming in, along with more depth than years previous.
Head Coach Lynne Dingman
Nathan led the Wolves at four of five cross country meets last season, and is our top returner. Alto is coming off of numerous personal bests this past season in cross country & indoor/outdoor. He placed in three events at the NSIC Indoor Championships for the Wolves, taking third in the DMR, fourth in the 3000m, and eighth in the 5000m. You can always count on Alto to give his best effort for the team without complaint. This past season he was challenged with illness and still led our team with his attitude & effort.
Head Coach Lynne Dingman

UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS

We’re excited about the potential of our men’s squad. We bring back a wealth of experience with a talented senior group. We’re going to work as hard as we can, do the little things, and always look to God and striving to glorify Him through it.
Head Coach Eric Chilson
Ben is a pillar within our men’s team. He is a talented student-athlete who leads by example and is the epitome of what it means to be a USF Cougar.”
Head Coach Eric Chilson

SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY

We only lose one runner from last year's team while adding three newcomers. Lots of work this summer will equate to new successes this fall.
Head Coach Kirk Nauman
Seth enters his sophomore year for the Mustangs after a strong freshman campaign. He led the men's team in cross country as a freshman while also adding a record to his resume' in the 3,000m outdoors. He is looking to move up in placement on the cross country course this fall.
Head Coach Kirk Nauman

WAYNE STATE COLLEGE

We have a lot of new faces on the team, which means we are a pretty young team. We have increased our roster size a bit and I think that will lead to better competition among the guys on our team, which will help raise the standards for everyone on the team. We have a good mix of meets which will give us good competition to help us prepare for the NSIC Championships.
Head Coach Marlon Brink
Quentin has a strong work ethic and is poised to have his best collegiate cross country season to date. I think he has a better understanding of what it takes to compete well against the great NSIC competition that all teams face. Quentin puts the work in day in and day out and has high expectations for both himself and the team, so I believe he will be a great leader for our team this fall.
Head Coach Marlon Brink

WINONA STATE UNIVERSITY

We are returning everyone from last year. The team really wants to be competitive. Mitchell Johnstone and Tyler Merrell have been leading the team this past spring and have been putting in good work. Mitchell Buerkle is looking to return to form after having some injury issues last season. Connor Hallaway and Andrew Metcalf should be key contributors. The team has a great attitude and wants to prove themselves.
Head Coach John Hibshman
Mitchell finished last cross-country season with strong performances at the NSIC and Central Regional Championships. He has the passion and drive to be one of the best runners in our conference. Mitchell has increased his training and put in a lot of great work this past year. His work ethic is incredible, and it will be fun to watch him run this fall.
