2024 NSIC COACHES' QUOTES / PLAYERS TO WATCH

AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY

I am excited for this year because our team is still fueled from the way we ended last year. They have been grinding hard this Summer, and are determined to make a statement this Fall.
Head Coach Jennifer Jacobs
Lucy has flown under the radar but you will remember her after this year! She has the quintessential setter mindset, she's able to discern what her teammates need on and off the court on any given moment. she is strategic in the moment, and creates plays to make her hitters have the best opportunity to score. She is the organizer of our squad on the floor, and has a competitive drive that is unmatched.
Head Coach Jennifer Jacobs

BEMIDJI STATE UNIVERSITY

I am really excited to see how we can build off last year's progress. Last season we finished with the best record in 15 years at Bemidji State. It's progress, but it does not get easier from here. We have a great group of returners from last year's rotation and an exciting bunch of freshman. I personally think this is one of the most skilled rosters we've had a BSU since I came here and Steph Remley deserves a lot of credit for that as well. Can't wait to get started.
Head Coach Kevin Ulmer
Ashley took a huge step forward last year as a leader on and off the court and was a significant part of our offense and defense. That huge step is a testament to her work ethic and mentality every day in the gym, in film and in the weight room. She will also be a captain for the third season in Bemidji State which also demonstrates her capacity to lead and ability to relate to her teammates. Ashley represents all of the characteristics that we hope for in a Beaver Volleyball Player.
Head Coach Kevin Ulmer

CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, ST. PAUL

This team excites me because we bring all of our serve receive back this year and when you can handle the first contact it always makes you a tough team to beat. We also have some strong returning hitters that can terminate the ball as well as a proficient setter who puts our hitters in good positions to be successful. While we lose a lot of offense that have been staples in our system we have some good young talent that are excited and hungry to show what they can offer.
Head Coach Brady Starkey
Emma is a great all-around player for us, she has the ability to terminate in the front row and defend the backrow equally well. She is our strongest serve receiver and toughest server on our team. Emma is our glue and a calming presence on the court.
Head Coach Brady Starkey

UNIVERSITY OF MARY

I am really excited for this year’s team! We return a great group of leaders and are adding a talented recruiting class to the mix. I am looking forward to the competition in our gym and the program’s continued elevation!
Head Coach Abby Pollart
Maddie is a great leader for our program on and off the court! Her work ethic is incredible, and her desire for Marauders volleyball to elevate is unwavering. I am grateful she chose to finish her fifth year with us and am excited for her work to shine this season!
Head Coach Abby Pollart

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CROOKSTON

I am more than excited to get to work this year! The team we have is extremely close, and I believe that will translate onto the court. We are still a young team, and have a lot to learn, but gained a lot of experience over the last year. We added depth and talent with our incoming class that will keep us competitive in the gym and in the classroom.
Head Coach Nick Meseck
Maya is coming off a stellar freshman season where she led the team in total kills, kills/set, and points/set. She is an excellent teammate, and loves to compete. I am excited to see the growth she continues to have this year!
Head Coach Nick Meseck

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH

Although we graduate some experience from last year's team, this group is excited to work hard to try to take the next step as a team. We have great chemistry both on and off the court that bonds this group and keeps them working hard together toward their goals. We return a large number of players and add 5 incoming freshmen that together should make for a highly competitive daily practice environment. This competition will help prepare this group for the grind of the NSIC schedule.
Head Coach Jim Boos
Sam is a hard worker both on and off the court and brings a steadiness to our team. She is a quiet leader who primarily leads by example. She has embraced her move to the RS and has become an offensive force for us attacking behind the setter. Sam had a great spring and hopes to pair that with a good summer of preparation to propel her into her senior season where she will be a major focal point for us at the net.
Head Coach Jim Boos

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO

We have quality depth at every position this year. With seven seniors on the team, we have a great deal of experience, which hasn't necessarily been there in previous years. Balancing that with five first year athletes who are hungry to prove themselves and this will be an exciting season for the Mavericks. We are looking forward to the challenges this year will bring.
Head Coach Corey Phelps
Toryn has put in a lot of work to prepare for this season and is ready to take on a bigger role this fall. We expect her to be a consistent contributor in all six rotations for us. Her gritty, aggressive mentality will keep the team hungry in every aspect of the game. We are excited about her elevated focus and the experience she brings to the floor from three years of play in our program and the NSIC.
Head Coach Corey Phelps

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MOORHEAD

After having my first full off-season with this team as head coach, I'm excited about how we finished the spring training season and I'm excited about the additions to our roster for this Fall. We have a large roster and that will give us depth and competition in all positions. We will be young, but it will be exciting to see who steps up and seizes the opportunity.
Head Coach Kari Thompson
Abby is a leader of our team both on and off the court. Her teammates look up to her and respect her because of the continuous hard work she puts in and because of her compassion for others. She is competitive and works hard to not only improve her own skills and abilities but she is committed to helping improve our program and continue to push Dragon Volleyball forward.
Head Coach Kari Thompson

MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY

I'm excited for this year's team because we will have a dynamic mix of skilled incoming players and seasoned returners. The team is eager to get started and they are up for the challenge of competing in the NSIC conference. I will also be stepping into a new coaching role this season, and I'm looking forward to leading this program.
Head Coach Alex Courtney
Bailee is entering her final year for Beaver Volleyball and during her time here, has made a big impact on this program. She is a true team-player; self-less, coachable, celebrates others and leads with hard work. Last season, Bailee recorded her 350th career block in our final weekend matches and is on her way to hitting a career milestone in kills this season. Bailee has earned the trust of her team and they feed off her energy on the court. Off the court, she is committed in the classroom, finishing spring with a 3.67 GPA and earning VP Academic Honor Roll.
Head Coach Alex Courtney

We return a lot of players of last season's team while adding 4 players that will help us in the gym. We will lean heavily on the returners early in the preseason to set the tone for practice and get us ready to compete in our two preseason tournaments and the for the battles that we will face in the NSIC Conference play.
Head Coach Brent Aldridge

Keri is a 3-year captain and two-time All-NSIC selection. She has also been named to the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence twice and was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. She currently sits top five in career assists at Northern State.
Head Coach Brent Aldridge

UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS

I'm most excited to see the development that has occurred over the last 3 years. In 2021, we started a couple freshman who are now seniors, and it's great to see them in leadership roles. In 2022, we started a handful of freshman as well, and I'm looking forward to watching them lead as upperclassmen. The best part of the profession is seeing people learn, change, and grow. We get to see some things come full-circle this year, and I'm most excited about that.
Head Coach Dan Mathews
Jordan is a three-time NSIC all-conference selection. We rely on her in big moments, and she delivers. Jordan embraces the challenges that come with that role. She is a supportive player who encourages her teammates and brings out the best in everyone.
Head Coach Dan Mathews

We have a good core group of players returning and they have been really enjoyable to work with this winter and spring. They have done a great job of connecting as teammates and have been competing hard on the court. They are ready to include our incoming players and look forward to competing at a high level in the NSIC!
Head Coach Tyler Boddy
Saari is a great leader on our team on and off the court. She competes hard every day in our gym, is a great student, and is a great role model for younger players. We are excited to see what she can continue to bring to our team throughout her final season!
Head Coach Tyler Boddy

ST. CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY

Huskies volleyball has improved immensely over the past nine years, and we are very proud of the product we are putting on the floor today. I felt this team had a fantastic spring as we grew closer together as individuals. The group has put in a ton of work, and I think the sky is the limit for this fall. We have a grueling schedule, including facing four top 25 teams to open the season as well as the defending national champion. And after that, the NSIC regular season awaits us.
Head Coach Chad Braegelmann
Kenzie has obviously had a plethora of individual success, and continues to be a leader on and off the court for the Huskies. She also exemplifies what passion and drive look like, for her teammates and young adults that follow our game.

We have a very balanced team with great experience in key roles. Along with some very talented freshman we are looking forward to a very competitive season. While the preseason should test us, it will be a great opportunity to get ready for the rigors of the always competitive NSIC season.
