NSIC Players to Watch & Coaches' Quotes

AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY

To be returning 4 of 5 starters from a year ago, along with 7 of our top 9, is something that we are extremely excited about. We also had a few key pieces out with injuries last season as well. Experience and depth will be a strength of ours this season. Even our young guys got a lot of quality playing time last season that we are hoping will pay dividends down the road. This has been a fun and exciting group to work with so far this preseason.
Head Coach Cody Schilling
Tanner is a returning All-NSIC guard and someone whom we believe to be one of the best shooters at the NCAA DII level. He is a great leader for us on and off the floor, a tireless worker and big time competitor. With his length and size on the wing he is also a guy that we lean on to help us on the defensive end, as well as on the glass. Look for Tanner to have a special senior season.
Head Coach Cody Schilling

BEMIDJI STATE UNIVERSITY

I believe this year's team possesses excellent depth and lineup flexibility. The players have a strong work ethic and form a close-knit group, which I'm confident will provide mutual support throughout the season. Their experience and positive attitudes make them a joy to coach and should be a significant asset when facing challenges.
Head Coach Mike Boschee
Tate is a versatile player who can play both inside and out. He brings a strong presence on both ends with his ability to rebound effectively and high basketball IQ. We are expecting great things from Tate this year not only with his skill level but from a leadership standpoint as well.
Head Coach Mike Boschee

CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, ST. PAUL

We have a great blend of hungry younger guys within our program, that have committed to getting ready for this year, added with some new pieces with DII experience. We have great kids, very solid leadership, and a group of hungry guys that will step up for us. We are very excited about this group and they are a lot of fun to coach!
Head Coach Matt Fletcher
Ben has been as consistent of a guard as you will find in the NSIC. He is a leader of our program and has emerged as one of the best players in the league. He is just starting to scratch the surface of what he is capable of and we are excited to see him lead our team.
Head Coach Matt Fletcher

UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN

I am excited for our program to have the opportunity to compete in the best conference in NCAA Division II. We have a fun mix of veterans and newcomers who have bonded well in the pre-season. I am excited to see how our players will embrace challenges and establish our culture as we begin our first year in the NSIC.
Head Coach Casey Bruggeman
Walters is one of my favorite players I have had the privilege to coach. He brings an infectious personality and strong leadership to our locker room. On the court, Anthony is a skilled scorer who possesses great physicality. I am excited for Anthony to get the chance to compete his senior season in the NSIC.

UNIVERSITY OF MARY

Although our team is full of new faces and lacks NSIC experience, there is a nice blend of skill, athleticism, and versatility in this group. We are very excited to begin the process of building our culture and continuing to create a program our university and community can be proud of!
Head Coach Darren Tighe
Kenny is an extremely smart and athletic guard who comes from a very successful junior college program (San Diego City) where he started in 24 of 26 games as a sophomore. His leadership will be invaluable for our squad this year.
Head Coach Darren Tighe

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CROOKSTON

This year's roster has good length, versatility and speed. After graduating 6 seniors, my staff did a great job filling those positions. We have had good competition and energy so far in workouts. Building our team chemistry and trust will be important as we gear up for the season.
Head Coach Bryan Beamish
Chandler has been a leader in our program since his freshman year. He's had to battle some adversity but his work ethic is unmatched and really looking forward to getting him on the court again. Chandler's ability to guard on defense, mixed with his attacking mindset on offense will help our team.
Head Coach Bryan Beamish

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH

I love the depth of our roster as well as the many different weapons we have offensively. We have many new guys in new roles all across our roster, but I love our talent, our team demeanor and the young hungriness this team continues to show every day.
Head Coach Justin Wieck
Caleb turned the corner last year as one of our better shooters & scorers from the perimeter. His ability to play both guard positions with great poise makes him a key part of our team this season. His role will continue to grow as he becomes one of our valued leaders of this team.

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO

What really excites me about this year’s group is our combination of length and athleticism—we’ve got the tools to create matchup problems on both ends of the floor. On top of that, we’ve got multiple guys who can really shoot it, which is going to help us space the court and open things up offensively. It’s a versatile group with a lot of potential.
Head Coach Matt Margenthaler
Malcom’s put in the work all offseason—he’s in the best shape of his career and locked in mentally. He’s poised for a breakout senior year, and we’re expecting him to be a major impact player on both ends of the floor.
Head Coach Matt Margenthaler

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MOORHEAD

We were able to quickly piece together a well rounded group of players with positional size. Our coaching staff has been most impressed with how quickly they have bonded off the court and that has translated to our progress on the court in workouts.
Head Coach Jason Kemp
Sam will provide elite shooting and versatility for our basketball team. He has the size to post up, and the skill set to operate on the perimeter at a high level. Since coming to MSUM, he has been a great leader and consistent contributor. His leadership and experience will help our team tremendously.
Head Coach Jason Kemp

MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY

Only four players returning from last years' roster with 11 newcomers having joined the program. I am excited for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We have some depth and some versatility. Let's see where this thing goes.
Head Coach Randall Herbst
Darik is a long, athletic, versatile player who can play multiple positions on both sides of the floor. Has a tremendous work ethic. He can run, rebound, slash and is good in transition. We are excited to have him back in the Magic City.
Head Coach Randall Herbst

NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY

As a group, there is good energy with everyone excited about the opportunity to be at Northern. We all understand the challenges ahead of us with the competitiveness of the NSIC, but we are hopeful to be a competitive group that plays together with great effort and energy.
Head Coach Matt Wilber
We are hopeful for James. He has been great through the coaching transition in helping bridge the locker room to the new coaching staff. He is a talented scorer that we are going to rely on throughout the year.
Head Coach Matt Wilber

University of Sioux Falls

I am excited about our large group of new guys mixed with our 2-3 returning starters. We have really good leadership from Taylen Ashley and Kyle Ingwerson for those new players to lean on. We think we have good depth and are excited about the growth this team will have over time.
Head Coach Chris Johnson
Taylen started every game for us last year as freshman. He gained valuable experience, and is our leading returning scorer. Taylen is an extremely quick and strong PG who runs our team very well, but also has the ability to score at a high level. He is one of our main leaders both on and off the floor. I think he is poised to have a really big year for us.
Head Coach Chris Johnson

Southwest Minnesota State University

This year's team has several key players coming back from last year's NSIC regular season co-champion. Our fan base is excited about this group. We have a lot of people giving us praise which is ok. As a coach, it's my responsibility to keep us in a space where we put in the work. Everyone in the NSIC works hard. That's what makes our conference one of the best in the country. It will be another fun year of NSIC hoops.
Head Coach Brad Bigler
Jakob has been one of those players who got better every year he was in college. As we begin this season he understands the challenge ahead. Jakob is a complete player. His skill set combined with his strength gives him many advantages on both offense and defense. What I appreciate most about Jakob is that we can coach him hard. His humility allows for him to be coached. This sets a great example for everyone in the program.
Head Coach Brad Bigler

St. Cloud State University

I am fortunate to coach a quality group of guys that have shown up consistently to compete regardless of the time of day or day of the week. They have held each other accountable through the preseason which has allowed us to cover a lot in a short period of time. This will be the most tenured group we have had in my time here, and we look forward to building on the progress we made a season ago. The NSIC will be as competitive and well coached as it always has been which should make for some quality basketball across the league. We are excited to get underway in November.
Head Coach Quincy Henderson
Luke had a very solid freshman year with the program. He was asked to do a lot early on and gradually grew into that role playing his best basketball through the second half of the season. He has a great work ethic and wherever he has been, he has made the players around him better which led to a First Team All-Conference selection this past season. I know he has had a great offseason in preparation for the upcoming year, and I expect him to pick up where he left off; playing at a high level.
Head Coach Quincy Henderson

Wayne State College

We are extremely excited to get the season started with this group. What most intrigues us about our group is the versatility that we can have to play different lines-ups (we can be athletic, we can be big, and can play a skilled line-up). We return eight players who have been in our program, including our two leading scorers and three of our top five from last season. We have seven new players with five of those being transfers. Although we have never had more than one new transfer coming into a season before, we really like the pieces we have added and expect that several of them will make an immediate impact.
Head Coach Jeff Kaminsky
Matt should build on a highly successful freshman season last year as he led our team in scoring and made the NSIC all-conference team (2nd team). His versatility as a scorer makes him a difficult match-up and his versatility as a defender will allow us to play different line-ups. Matt is pleasure to coach, and we are looking forward to his continued development in our program.
Head Coach Jeff Kaminsky

Winona State University

This is the second year in a row that we lost four starters, so we again have a lot of new faces. I have liked what I have seen in fall workouts from our new players but we will continue to learn more as we start practice in a few weeks. We will need Tyler Mason and Nick Taylor, the two players that played on last year's NCAA Tournament team, to be improved as each moves from their freshman to sophomore seasons. And it's good to have Gavyn Hurley back after missing last season with a knee injury.
Head Coach Todd Eisner
Ryan is a skilled big that really fits the way we play offensively. We are excited about his ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter and run the floor in transition. Ryan has been working extremely hard this off-season and in fall workouts. We will need him to be a consistent presence on both ends of the floor for us.
Head Coach Todd Eisner
