We are a first-year team in the NSIC and DII. With 18 true freshmen on our team this year we are really young and hungry! The team is motivated and wanting to make some big time waves this year! The boys have been stacking the days and working their tails off this preseason and I can't wait to see how they do this year on the mats and in the classroom!
Head Coach Gresh Jones
Isaac is a do it all type of student athlete. He is a leader on and off the mats and constantly asking questions on how to improve in certain situations on the mat as well as questions off the mat! Isaac is a very talented freshmen for UJ who is willing to do the extra and I am very excited to see how he does this year!

What excites me most about this year’s team is the energy and mindset our guys bring every day. We’ve got a young, gritty, and hungry group that’s willing to put in the work and embrace the grind. I truly believe this team has taken a step forward, and we’re in a stronger position this season than we were last year.
Head Coach Adam Aho
Sean has made a huge impact on our team, not only with his performance on the mat but with the way he leads by example every day. He earned captain status this year because of his leadership qualities and his commitment to always putting the team first. Sean’s humble, goofy personality makes him easy to connect with, but at the core he’s a true 'mat rat' who absolutely loves the sport.

We’ve been a young program the past couple of years. We only graduated one senior last year. We have a handful of seniors this year who are servant leaders and are quality examples of how to go about your business throughout the season. Every team is unique and the story gets written throughout the season. Having steady, experienced leaders in the locker room will be essential if we want to max out the potential we have in the room.
Head Coach Jim Makovsky
Drake is a high energy guy and he genuinely loves the day-to-day Maverick Wrestling experience. I think his vibe sets the tone off-the-mat and in the locker room. He’s a good example of how to take some of the sharp edges off of a very intense, combat sport. He’s had a lot of ups and downs in his career and he’s humble enough to pay forward some of the lessons he’s learned throughout his career. In addition, Drake is actively involved in SAAC at MSU and in the NSIC. He’s a regular at other events on campus and in the community. Not sure when he sleeps.

This year’s team returns eight starters from last season’s lineup, including regional place winners Pedro Velazquez (141), Mason Gode (174), and heavyweight Liam Babitt. The roster features 32 wrestlers, with 11 new recruits joining the program. Senior leadership is strong, highlighted by Clayson Mele (125), Pedro Velazquez (141), Beau Daily (149), Cody Wienen (149/157), Jacob Thomas (157), Jacob Reinardy (157/165), Mason Gode (174), and Wyatt Powell (197). This veteran core has set the tone in the preseason, leading by example and holding teammates accountable as the group works toward building on last season’s progress. The team’s goals are clear: improve the dual record, qualify more wrestlers to the national tournament, and push for higher finishes at the regional level and national level. Pedro Velazquez (141), Jacob Thomas (157), Mason Gode (174), Anthony Sykora (174), and Liam Babitt (285) have all proven they can compete with—and defeat—national qualifiers and All-Americans. The challenge now is to perform consistently and deliver when it matters most at the regional tournament.
Head Coach Kris Nelson
Pedro returns at 141 pounds for MSUM after a standout 2024–25 season. He recorded four wins by major decision and capped off the year with a runner-up finish at the NCAA Super Region V, where he upset the nation’s top-ranked wrestler to qualify for the NCAA Wrestling Championships. In addition to his success on the mat, Velazquez was recognized as an NWCA Scholar All-American and a CSC Academic All-District selection. Since last year’s national tournament, Velazquez has continued to raise his level through a strong summer of wrestling and lifting. Focused and motivated, he enters the season determined to build on his accomplishments and make a push to earn All-America honors.

We lost six of our 10 Super Region participants, so our lineup is going to look a lot different this season. We are going to be transitioning from being a very experienced team to a very youthful team. We are very excited about our freshman class, and we will likely be counting on several of them to jump right into the lineup this season.
Head Coach Evan Forde
Ryan has been in our lineup his whole career here. He is a leader on our team. I think he had a great off-season, so I'm really excited to see what he can do this year. We expect big things from him.

I’m really excited for this upcoming season; this group has been putting in the work mentally and physically, showing great consistency and commitment to growth. It’s been awesome to see their development through the off season, and I can’t wait to watch their hard work pay off when we step on the mat this year.
Head Coach Joshua Nolan
Sloan had an impressive true freshman season, showing growth both mentally and physically every time he stepped on the mat. He’s an athlete who shows up every day ready to work, improve, and push those around him. Since the conclusion of last season, he’s demonstrated outstanding consistency in his training, and we expect him to emerge as a leader on our team.

We are excited about the competition we have in our room. We have a good group coming off red-shirt who are hungry to compete. The competition and depth we have in our room is exciting and we are looking forward to what we can do this season.
Head Coach Matt Meuleners
Jordon is a great leader for our team. He loves the sport and his passion is felt by his teammates. We are excited to see him continue to improve as a wrestler and a leader for our team.

This year’s team brings unmatched energy. We may be a young program with only a handful of upperclassmen, but you’d never know it by the way this group responds. With several athletes building off strong finishes last season and a few talented newcomers joining the lineup, the pieces are in place for something special. Add in a relentless work ethic, and we’re primed to surprise some teams this year. The energy is contagious, and from the moment this group came together, I knew we had something different. #LetsRide
Head Coach Chayse Jackson
Hanson is one of the most determined athletes in the country. After a season where he peaked at the right time and found his offensive rhythm, he is more driven than ever to reach the podium this year. His career has included more setbacks than most, but he has turned every challenge into fuel. Each day he steps into the wrestling room ready to attack the workout, sharpen his skills, and elevate his teammates. As one of our few upperclassmen, Chase sets the tone—encouraging those around him to push themselves and raise our program to new heights. I’m fired up to see him back on the mat this season and can’t wait to watch his offseason work pay off.

This year, the Huskies will rely on eight newcomers out of the ten respected weight classes. While our student-athletes will be unproven in terms of experience, expectations remain high. We will have a lot to prove to ourselves and to the nation that Huskies wrestling can remain one of the top elite programs in DII wrestling. We are excited for the challenge and look forward to the process.
Head Coach Steve Costanzo
Joel is the complete package as a student-athlete. His is a driven individual who takes his classes, training and competition very seriously. He is a leader by example in and out of the wrestling room. He displays a championship lifestyle and embodies a team first mentality. We are very excited about what he brings to our program as a student-athlete. Looking for another great year out of Joel!

I'm excited for the 13 incoming guys that we had join our program this Fall. We have a good mix of veterans and 1st/2nd year guys. Our veterans have been leading by example and our youth have been hungry to earn a starting spot. It's been a great dynamic early on and I look forward to each and every opportunity our team has to compete this season.
Head Coach Nick Becker
Shane possesses a tremendous work ethic and is a student of the sport. He is always working to evolve his game and help his teammates along the way. He's one of our leaders in our program and has made a significant impact on others around him. On the mat, he is a point scorer and definitely exciting to watch compete.
