MINNESOTA STATE CLAIMS TOP SPOT IN NSIC WOMEN'S INDOOR PRESEASON COACHES' POLL

BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Fresh off its sixth straight NSIC Indoor Championship last year, Minnesota State was picked to win the NSIC in the preseason women's indoor track & field coaches' poll. The Mavericks received all 14 first place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team) and tallied 196 points, ranking them ahead of the University of Mary, which was second with 181 points and the other first place vote. Augustana was third with 164 points while Winona State was fourth with 150 points. 

Minnesota State's Ashanti Harvey (track) and Miranda Lauvstad (field) were voted by the coaches as the preseason athletes of the year. 

The 2025-26 NSIC Indoor Track & Field season gets underway this weekend with the regular season culminating on Friday-Saturday, February 27-28 at the NSIC Championship held at Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, Minnesota, hosted by Minnesota State University, Mankato.  The entire NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championship will air live on the NSIC Network; a day pass can be purchased for $10, while full access to both days of competition is available for $15.00.

Ashanti Harvey (Sprints, Sr., Hollywood, Fla. / Hallandale HS) - Minnesota State
  • Placed fourth in 60 meter hurdles at NSIC Indoor Championships with season best time 8.49
  • Placed eighth in 200 meters at NSIC Indoor Championships with time of 25.30
  • All-American First Team in 100m hurdles with fifth place finish at NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships with a time of 13.37
  • All-NSIC in Outdoor 100m Hurdles with a third place time 13.47
Ashanti returns for her final season, fresh off First Team All-American honors during the outdoor season. She will look to build on that this year and play an integral role in the overall team goal of defending the indoor team championship.

AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY - 3rd

With a large and talented class having graduated last spring, we’ll be counting on new contributors to step up this indoor season and I’m excited to see the growth that brings out in our team. This group has trained with purpose and shown great competitiveness throughout the fall, and I’m eager to see how they respond to the opportunities ahead.

Tenley earned First Team All-NSIC honors last indoor season and has taken positive strides since. She placed at the outdoor conference championships in the spring and recorded the best NSIC cross country finish of her career this fall. Tenley does all of the little things right and I'm excited for her to continue building momentum into the indoor season.

Ashton's dedication to excelling in multiple events is unmatched. Her hard work and focus across disciplines, coupled with her relentless drive to improve, makes her a standout athlete with a remarkable work ethic. She is coming off a big freshman year, scoring indoor in the pentathlon and outdoor in the heptathlon. Ashton looks to be a competitive force in the pentathlon as we begin this indoor season.

BEMIDJI STATE UNIVERSITY - t-12th

This team has a new look to them! Great energy and willing to put the work in! We have been all leaning into accountability as a team from coaches to athletes, and I believe that's going to take us to new heights this season! Fun group to be around and they put the work in to do great things!

Maggie is heading into her senior year with the drive and passion to do great things! I believe Maggie has what it takes to leave her mark in the NSIC! Maggie is coming of an amazing cross-country season which should set her up for a great start to indoor. Always fun to watch her compete and I can't wait to see what she does this indoor.

Trista is a returning point scorer in the NSIC and is looking to grow in the conference. She is a tough competitor with a drive to be the very version of herself day in and day out! Her hard will do the talking in the end of February.

CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, ST. PAUL - 10th

We have a really great mix of veterans who know what it takes to compete at a high level and younger athletes who are eager to make their mark. The indoor season is always a great opportunity to build momentum, grow together as a unit, and establish the competitive mindset we’ll carry with us throughout the year season. What stands out about this group is their energy and how much they push and support each other. I’m excited to see that translate into strong performances during the indoor season.

One athlete I think people should keep an eye on is Nyadio, our standout in the 800 meters. She had a really strong last season and has come back this year with even more focus and maturity. Her training has been consistent, she’s stronger than ever, and I think she’s ready to take a big step forward this indoor season.

She’s been putting in a lot of quality work this preseason — technically, she’s made some great adjustments, and the strength gains she’s made in the weight room are really starting to show. What stands out about her is her work ethic and competitiveness; she’s never satisfied and always looking for ways to improve. I think this indoor season could be a yet another successful one for her.

We are excited to make our entry into the NCAA & the NSIC this Track & Field season. Our primary goal is to learn how to compete well & set ourselves up for a future as a competitive Track & Field program in the conference. We have built a solid culture as a foundation & look to continue to progress as individuals & as a team as we get into deeper into the season!

Lydia comes into the NSIC after completing a very successful HS career, which should put her in a competitive position as a freshman in a variety of distance events. She has shown great promise in her first XC season in our program, which we fully expect will translate well on the track!

We return a lot of strong conference and national performers. Last year, we ended the season on a high note. We have had many people develop quicker than anticipated. We hope to see that show for us during the season.

Tayen had a breakout season her freshman year in the sprints. She was able to run impressive marks in the 200m, 400m, and 600m. Her hard work and dedication to the sport gave her the opportunity to shine. She has lofty goals after this season, after finishing her Canadian summer season as a national champion and summer games champion in the 400m.

Anna found her potential last outdoor. She is extremely driven to improve in her events. After an unfortunate injury at nationals, she is back and hungrier than ever to get back to nationals and win conference in the long jump. She is now a leader of the women's team and has taken on the role in a positive way.

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH - 7th

The 2025–26 UMD Women’s Track and Field team brings back standout performers across every event group, giving the Bulldogs a strong and balanced foundation heading into the season. After a promising fall of training and a successful cross country campaign, the team is eager to see its first years and underclassmen take the next step forward. With that combination of proven experience and emerging young talent, this group is ready to make a big impact in the NSIC and beyond.

Shae enters the 2025–26 season as our preseason athlete to watch after an outstanding year on the track. She’s the defending NSIC champion in both the 5K and 10K and continues to raise the bar for our distance group. With her consistency, competitive drive, and championship experience, Shae has the opportunity to be a major impact performer not only in the NSIC but also on the national stage for the Bulldogs this season.

Erin is poised for an exciting season as one of the NSIC’s top returning triple jumpers. She’s shown steady progression throughout her career and is ready to take a big step forward as an all-around jumps athlete. With her work ethic and competitive focus, Erin has the potential to be a major contributor for the Bulldogs and a standout performer in the conference this year.

Out women's team brings back many decorated athletes from last season and have added many impactful athletes for this season. The ladies have the goal of defending their NSIC team championship while competing with the nation's best in hopes to bring home more national hardware.

Our team gained valuable experience last season and has returned with a strong sense of confidence and purpose. We’ve also added some new faces who will make an immediate impact, which makes this one of the most exciting and well-rounded groups we’ve had in recent years.

Christalea brings a phenomenal work ethic to our program. She’s the type of athlete who shows up every day ready to get better. She was a multi-time state qualifier at Harvey High School, finishing second in both the 200m and 400m hurdles as a senior, and she’s coming in with impressive personal bests: 56.55 in the 400m, 25.11 in the 200m, and 46.77 in the 300m hurdles. What excites us most is that she’s only scratched the surface of her potential. She’s driven, she’s coachable, and she’s poised for a breakout year.

Jazmin had an incredible freshman year where she quickly established herself as one of the NSIC’s premier jumpers. From breaking our school record in her first collegiate meet to winning the outdoor conference title, she’s shown poise, consistency, and competitive fire beyond her years. What makes Jazmin special is her attention to detail and her ability to rise in championship moments. She’s only scratching the surface of what she can do, and we’re excited to see her continue to elevate this indoor season.

MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY - 11th

The women's team should have a nice balance across the sprints, middle distance, jumps, and throws to be competitive at the conference level. We have some upperclassman with a lot of experience that should be competing at the top of the conference in their respective events. I look forward to watching the hard work pay off for this group.

Bailey is the returning indoor conference champ in the 1,000m and she will look to continue to be at the top of the conference in the middle distance events. Bailey has put in the work this fall and she is ready to have another strong season in the middle distance events.

Afton is coming off a strong outdoor track season in which she made the finals in the triple jump at the conference meet. She should continue to build off of her strong freshman season and should look to be very competitive at the conference level in the triple jump.

NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY - 6th

We bring back some key members of our women's team, along with some great additions with our freshman class. We expect to be a large threat in the pole vault, bringing a full squad of potential scorers. We expect to be a well-balanced team across the board. The ladies are excited to compete this indoor season.

Renea is entering into her final season for the Wolves. She has dealt with many injuries over her career and for the first time in several years has had a healthy pre-season. She is in great shape and fired up to compete. We are excited to see what she can do this indoor season.

Morgan is entering her final season for the Wolves. She had an amazing junior season in the multi's where she hit provo both indoor/outdoor in the multi, along with a school record in the Heptathlon. UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS - 5th

We’re a young team complemented by several talented veterans, combining experience with fresh energy. The Cougars boast depth and versatility across multiple events, positioning this diverse group to make a meaningful impact in every area of competition. Our women are focused and ready to grow and develop over the course of the season.

Tamia is the returning school record holder in the 60m dash, two-time NSIC 60m placer, and two time NCAA National Qualifier. She has shown consistent growth and improvement over the course of her career and looks to keep building during her senior campaign.

We have a nice mix of returners and newcomers that should create some excitement this season.

Already the school record holder in the 1,000 M, Madison looks to chase down more indoor records this upcoming season. In her first 2 years at SMSU, she has helped to program grow as a main contributor to the mid-distance / distance program. She has many attainable goals for this indoor season.

An NCAA Provisional High Jump qualifier both indoor and outdoor last season, Christine is looking for even more this upcoming season. She is 1 cm shy of the SMSU indoor and hopes to surpass it on her way to another great season.

ST. CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY - 15th

What excites me most about this group is the balance we have , a talented freshman class that’s eager to learn, a sophomore group that’s starting to hit their stride, and upperclassmen who’ve really embraced leadership. You can feel the energy and unity.

Last year Zaria was learning what it takes at this level; now she is locked in as she has gained clarity and experience. Zaria has brought a different kind of focus and energy, you can tell she's ready to make some noise in the sprints and jumps.

We have a lot of new faces on the team this year who I think can and will contribute to the success of the team. We have a great new indoor facility which is helping our athletes reach their fullest potential. It should be an exciting year ahead for the team!
