2025 NSIC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches' Poll 3/21/2025 11:30:00 AM MINNESOTA STATE SELECTED IN NSIC MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD PRESEASON COACHES' POLL BURNSVILLE, Minn. - The 12-time defending NSIC Champions of Minnesota State University, Mankato were picked to win the NSIC in the preseason men's outdoor track & field coaches' poll. The Mavericks received nine first place votes and tallied 98 points, ranking them ahead of Augustana, which was second with 91 points the other two first place votes. The University of Mary and MSU Moorhead tied for third with 74 points, while Northern State was fifth with 67 points. Augustana's Ryan Hartman was voted by the coaches as preseason outdoor track athlete of the year while Sioux Falls' Tyler Hiatt was named the preseason field athlete of the year. The 2025 NSIC outdoor track & field season gets underway this weekend with the regular season culminating on Thursday-Saturday, May 8-10 at the NSIC Championships held on the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth. We have a strong group of seniors but also a group of underclassmen who are eager to contribute and step into larger roles. The leadership from our veterans, combined with the energy and potential of our younger athletes, creates an exciting dynamic and I look forward to seeing that on display this spring. PAUL (7th) As we move to the outdoor season, there is a feeling of motivation and excitement after an indoor season which saw some great things achieved but ultimately fell short of overall team expectations. The guys are itching to train and determined to outperform their finish from the indoor conference meet. Head Coach Sam Johnson Del stormed onto the scene this winter as a multi-threat sprinter finishing the season ranked in the top 10 on the NSIC performance list in the 60m, 200m (NCAA provisional and school record), and 400m (NCAA provisional and NSIC champion) which earned him the NSIC Newcomer of the Year award. What is special about Del is his fearlessness when he races. No matter who he is racing, he believes he will win., And we saw during the indoor season that more often than not, he does! Head Coach Sam Johnson Calder is coming of an indoor season to remember which culminated in his first NSIC indoor heptathlon championship and a trip to the NCAA indoor national meet. He returns this spring as the defending NSIC Decathlon champion with his sights set on making it two for two in qualifying for national meets this year. Head Coach Sam Johnson UNIVERSITY OF MARY (t-3rd) The Men's team stepped up at the indoor conference meet. With key injuries, getting 3rd was a great accomplishment. We feel that we are a better outdoor team, so that is exciting to see what happens. This team has a lot of potential, they just need to prove it when it matters most. Head Coach Cale Korbelik Bouncing back from injury, Gideon had a great performance at the conference championship and looks to finish the year strong in outdoor. Gideon is a hard worker and has the best attitude in practice and in his day-to-day life. You can't be in a bad mood after talking with Gideon. Head Coach Cale Korbelik Kenny finished the indoor season as the top freshman in DII in the Heptathlon. We are excited for the decathlon, which is more of his specialty. He showed great poise at the conference championships and loves the big meets. Head Coach Cale Korbelik UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH (8th) Our men's team is as deep as it's ever been in terms of conference level point contribution from every event group. We are looking forward to seeing some of our younger athletes grown into conference level scorers as we get into the outdoor season. Head Coach Karly Brautigam Jack is the indoor 5k conference champion and as a 5th year is doing the best racing of his career. We are excited to see Jack take on the outdoor events and believe he will be a conference champion threat in the 3k steeple. Head Coach Karly Brautigam Jackson is coming off his best indoor season yet where he achieved a provisional qualifying mark in the shot put and was on the podium for the first time in weight throw. We believe Jackson has the opportunity to podium in multiple throwing events this spring. Head Coach Karly Brautigam MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO (1st) The indoor season was good to the Mavericks, we will continue to build as we add the outdoor events into the mix and work to keep our streak alive! Head Coach Mike Turgeon Jalen has shown he has what it takes to be one of the best in Division II during the indoor season, He will only get stronger as we transition outdoors to the 110m hurdles. Head Coach Mike Turgeon Braxton is coming off another great indoor season where he was top eight nationally in the heptathlon. He will continue to grow as a combined event athlete as he transitions to the Decathlon while adding some stronger events. Head Coach Mike Turgeon MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MOORHEAD (t-3rd) The strides we made indoors set the foundation for an exciting outdoor season. This team has the potential to accomplish something special. It’s going to be exciting to see how they continue to push each other and elevate our program as the season progresses. Head Coach Ryan Milner Colin will make a significant impact for us in the middle-distance events this outdoor season. He’s coming off a strong indoor campaign where he showed his ability to compete at a high level, from 800m to the Mile and we’re excited to see how that carries into the outdoor season. Head Coach Ryan Milner Jaiden had an outstanding indoor season, winning a conference high jump title and earning a trip to the NCAA National Championships—a testament to his talent and dedication. He brings a relentless drive to improve every day, and we’re eager to see that translate to the outdoor season. He will continue to be a major asset to our program, and we’re excited to watch him elevate his performance in the months ahead. Head Coach Ryan Milner MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY (11th) Our MSU men's team has a lot of talent in the long sprints and middle distance and we are looking to be competitive in those events at the conference level. We also have a strong, young group of throwers that should be competing for an opportunity to make the finals at the conference meet. Head Coach Jordan Aus Peyton is coming off a strong indoor season in which he finished 4th at the conference indoor meet in the 1,000m. He has positioned himself to continue this momentum and be very competitive in the conference in both the 800m and the 1500m Head Coach Jordan Aus Dallas is looking to cap his career with a strong showing in the outdoor season. He had a great indoor season in which he set new PRs and I expect him to continue improving and should put himself in the mix of the top shotput throwers in the conference. Head Coach Jordan Aus NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY (5th) Our team is coming off a great indoor season. The team was able to amass a season record for provisional marks hit across many events. We anticipate being a stronger outdoor team with the additional throwing events. We bring back a very talented javelin squad into the mix. We should be a very well-rounded team this outdoor season. Head Coach Lynne Dingman Chris had an amazing indoor track season. He was runner-up in the 60M with a new school record time of 6.73. We look for him to continue that speed into the outdoor season. We are excited to see what he can do this spring. Head Coach Lynne Dingman Jayden is coming off a great indoor season where he placed in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump at the NSIC Championships. He has extended his school record in the triple jump multiple times this season and he is eyeing the outdoor record. We are excited to see how far he can jump this spring. Head Coach Lynne Dingman UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS (6th) We have a senior heavy team with a diverse pool of talent spanning all different event groups. The USF men's team has been climbing the conference rankings over the course of 4 years. With the addition of some talented newcomers, we will make for a well rounded team. We're excited to see what our men are capable of this upcoming outdoor season. Head Coach Eric Chilson Ben is a returning NSIC runner-up in the 800 as well as a 4x400 member placing 7th. He is also on the top 10 list at USF for both of those events respectively. Ben is coming off of a stellar indoor season where he placed in the 800 and DMR. Head Coach Eric Chilson SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY (10th) We have had a very productive indoor season which culminated in many school records and personal records being achieved. I look forward to the next few months to see what we can do. Head Coach Kirk Nauman Max enters the outdoor season chomping at the bit to attack the 400 M hurdles his senior season. He has finished 2nd and 4th in the event the last two years and the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Max also made an appearance in the same event at Drake Relays last season. Max is hoping for more as his senior season progresses. Head Coach Kirk Nauman Deekon returns after redshirting last season. During that time he has focused on refining his technique in the discus. As he enters his junior outdoor campaign he hope to make the NCAA list and knock off a 53 year old SMSU discus record. Head Coach Kirk Nauman WAYNE STATE COLLEGE (9th) Overall, we are probably a better team outdoors than what we are indoors. Our guys are hungry to show that they can compete well in the NSIC. The NSIC Indoor Championships left a sour taste in their mouth and I think we will see them come out with a lot of fire for the outdoor season. Head Coach Marlon Brink Emmanuel had a spectacular indoor season for his first year at WSC. He has only been with us a very short time and he has left his mark on our record books and helped us to elevate our sprint crew. I am excited to see what he can do on the outdoor circuit and continue to build on his success at WSC! Head Coach Marlon Brink Daylin has emerged into a solid thrower, who competes well when the stakes are the highest. He has made steady progress again this year during the indoor season and became the school record holder in the men's shot put.
