DALLAS – The National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has selected University of Mary senior Ryan Chamberlain as the National Pitcher of the Week.
Chamberlain, previously selected as the Northern Sun and the NCBWA Central Region Pitcher of the Week, is just the third UMary pitcher to earn national pitching honors. Jonathan Draheim claimed the award in 2021 while Shane Trattles was honored in 2013. Both received NCBWA national recognition after throwing no-hitters.
A righthander from Laramie, WY, Chamberlain was phenomenal in his outing against Concordia-St. Paul, allowing just three hits and striking out ten in a 9-inning complete game 8-0 shutout of the Golden Bears. The three hits were the only CSP baserunners in the game.
After giving up a hit in each of the first two innings, Chamberlain limited the Golden Bears to just one hit in the final seven innings. Finding a groove early in the game, he retired 11 straight hitters before he was touched for one final hit to lead off the seventh inning. Chamberlain then set down the final nine batters in order and 20 of the last 21 overall.
Chamberlain is the first UMary pitcher to throw a 9-inning complete game shutout since 2014.
