2025 NSIC COACHES' QUOTES / PLAYERS TO WATCH

AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY

This year’s team is on a mission. The goal of retuning back to the NSIC tournament and making the post season is at the forefront of everyone’s minds and we are determined to get there. This year’s senior class has not been satisfied with being on the bubble and they are leading with conviction and chips on their shoulders. We are excited to see the intensity their mindset brings to practices and competitions! We also have a very deep bench and are confident in any of our reserves stepping up to the plate when needed. It's going to be an exhilarating season!
Head Coach Jennifer Jacobs
Syd is one of our most versatile attackers. She can swing from anywhere along the net, and she is returning as one of the best blockers in our gym. She also has one of the meanest jump float serves out there, and we are excited to see what she does this season both offensively and defensively!
Head Coach Jennifer Jacobs

BEMIDJI STATE UNIVERSITY

Bemidji State is going to look a lot different this season after graduating several key starters. We have 15 underclassmen on the roster, and they bring a ton of energy and eagerness to improve. At the same time, we’re anchored by three strong senior leaders who set the tone and provide valuable experience. This group is hungry to get better, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how we grow and compete together throughout the season.
Head Coach Erika Bute
Ava is an extremely hardworking and competitive athlete with a strong desire to keep getting better every day. Over the past year, she’s put in a ton of time to improve all aspects of her game, and that growth has really shown. Even though she’s only a sophomore, she’s ready to take on a key role for us, and I’m excited to see how she impacts our team this season.
Head Coach Erika Bute

CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, ST. PAUL

We return most of our serve receive and ball control from last season which will help the continuity of our offense. While we graduated a lot of strong players from last season it's always exciting to see what players are going to step up and fill those roles. Fortunately we have a lot of returning talent and some strong incoming players that will get a chance this year.
Head Coach Brady Starkey
Cassie had a strong season last year as our libero and we look for her to build on the success she had last season. She is a strong serve receiver who really helps solidify our ball control with her ability to take a lot of court. Her defensive is very consistent and under control and she gives our team a chance to swing for a lot of points. Cassie is a tireless worker in practice every day and is a joy to coach.
Head Coach Brady Starkey

UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN

We will be the least experienced team that I have coached in my 17 years at the University of Jamestown. However, this team has a lot of energy and the players genuinely care about each other. Returning only four players from last year's roster, we will have a number of new faces on the court. I am excited to see how our team, players, and coaches respond to the gauntlet that is NSIC volleyball!
Head Coach Jon Hegerle
Lily will be in her third year as a starting setter. She has a tremendous work ethic and is a student of the game. Lily is always looking for what her team and teammates need. Lily is competitive and doesn't shy away from any challenge. She is also humble and empathetic which makes her a great leader.
Head Coach Jon Hegerle

UNIVERSITY OF MARY

We have a great group of hard working and positive athletes on the team. I started coaching at U Mary this past spring and it has been a great experience in the gym with the team. We have a lot of young players on the roster with a lot of upside. We are excited to see what we can do as we keep working, learning, and developing through the season.
Head Coach Robert Frost
Maddy is a very athletic setter for our program and has been a captain for the team. She continues to develop on the court and in the weight room and I feel her best volleyball is still ahead of her. I am excited about what she can help the team accomplish this fall. Maddy is a wonderful person to coach, hard-working and has shown strong moral integrity. She is our SAAC representative and will move on to Dental School after her time at U Mary.
Head Coach Robert Frost

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CROOKSTON

Our team will have a different look this year, and we’re excited about the group we have. We believe this team will come together with strong chemistry and a shared sense of purpose. We’re looking forward to building something special together and can’t wait to get started.
Head Coach Nick Meseck
Kailee is a standout leader both on and off the court. She excels academically, consistently raises the standard in the gym, and embodies the values of selflessness, toughness, and kindness. She comes from a wonderful family, and we’re proud to have her as part of our program.
Head Coach Nick Meseck

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH

We are excited about the upcoming season as we bring in a large core of new players that should bring high energy, excitement, and competition to our gym. There are many unknowns as we head into the preseason, so those first two weekends will be crucial in learning more about ourselves and preparing for the gauntlet of competition that the NSIC will once again be. We look forward to the challenges ahead and are excited to see how this group gels and becomes a cohesive unit.
Head Coach Jim Boos
Madeline brings five tool ability to the table as well as experience on the floor from this past season. Her positive attitude and infectious energy will help lead a very young team into NSIC play. Her ability to bring out the best in herself and her teammates will be needed as the team learns and grows together.
Head Coach Jim Boos

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO

The youth and athleticism on the team this year are the noticeable changes in our program. We are moving in a direction that embodies the culture that we believe will continue to move us forward in the NSIC. The energy will be different this season and if we're able to manage the balance between hard work, expectations, and the incredibly competitive conference we're in, great things are ahead for the Mavericks.
Head Coach Corey Phelps
Avery jumped onto the NSIC scene last year as a freshman. She was a consistent threat at the net throughout the year and her role only grew as the season progressed. What sets Avery apart is that no moment was too big for her. She just does her job as well as she can while being a great teammate.
Head Coach Corey Phelps

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MOORHEAD

Our entire team has grown this offseason from experience and skill. We have a committed group of returning student-athletes who have established a positive team culture that prioritizes the success of the team and growth of the individual. We add some competitive incoming freshmen this year and will have experience and depth at every position leading to a very balanced team
Head Coach Kari Thompson
Raiah has the potential to be a force at the net and has showed that in matches her sophomore season. Having experience as a middle gives her the ability to be diverse in her offensive options and to always be an offensive option. Her blocking has the ability to alter the offensive options of our opponents on every play. Raiah’s on court impact will continue to grow as she has been working on her overall game this offseason.
Head Coach Kari Thompson

MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY

We are bringing in a lot of new, young talent to our program this year, with the potential to build a stronger program than Minot State has seen in quite a few years. I am very excited for this season and to watch this group develop together.
Head Coach Alex Courtney
Emily is transferring to us from McHenry County College, where her team finished 28-5 for the season as conference champions and Emily earned All-Conference Second Team honors. As a team captain, she's bringing in not only her athletic skill, but maturity and experience leading a team. She doesn't back down from a challenge, so competing in the NSIC is the perfect fit and next step to continuing to elevate her game.
Head Coach Alex Courtney

NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY

I think we have a mix of experience and youth. Graduating setter Keri Walker and outside hitter Hanna Thompson will leave some big shoes to fill. Preseason will be a chance to evaluate and let players compete to earn their spots. I am excited to see how it all comes together as we prepare for another tough season in the NSIC.
Head Coach Brent Aldridge
We return two-time All-NSIC first team honoree Abby (Meister) Schauer to anchor our backcourt this season. Abby was named Libero of the Year in 2024 after digging 578 balls at an average of 5.67 digs per set. For her effort Abby was named the first All-American libero in Northern State history. Abby is a very humble and hard-working player in the classroom and on the court. She is a two-time CSC Academic All-District® recipient and was named a CSC Academic All-American® in 2024. I look forward to watching Abby compete during her senior year.
Head Coach Brent Aldridge

UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS

This year's team has many upperclassmen and returns multiple starters from the 2024 campaign. Additionally, the Cougars add five new freshman who are ready to compete at the collegiate level. USF has qualified for the NSIC Tournament for the last three years in a row, and that postseason experience will help the team be competitive during the 2025 season.
Head Coach Dan Mathews
Sadie has been USF's starting outside hitter, primary passer, and top point scorer for the last three years. She has been named to the All-NSIC Team every year of her collegiate career with the Cougars. A graduate student, Sadie will continue her education in the MBA program at USF.
Head Coach Dan Mathews

SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY

We have a great core group of returners who have put in a lot of time, effort and commitment to being Mustangs. “We will miss Emma (VanHeel) and Saari (Kuehl) who graduated this past May and look forward to adding our incoming freshmen to a hard-working group of returners. They have created a great bond together over the spring and summer! We are looking forward to competing within the NSIC and should be fun to get them all back in the gym soon.
Head Coach Tyler Boddy
Kenzie is the ultimate example of how you would want all your players to practice. She is always going all out and trying to push everyone else around her to play as hard as they can. Kenzie can increase the level of play in the gym by her constant effort and the leadership qualities she possesses. We look forward to her leading our team in the back court again this fall.
Head Coach Tyler Boddy

ST. CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY

Once again, I'm impressed with the work that these women have put in, throughout the spring, competitive season, and the off-season. They continue to improve as volleyball players, students of the game, and as role models to the young girls that watch our sport. I am excited to see some new players step up into bigger roles this fall, and excited for the combination of experience and youth that we look to roster.
Head Coach Chad Braegelmann
Ella is fantastic offensively and does not get cheated on her swings. She is very intense on the volleyball court and has grown in her knowledge of the game. Her energy on the court is contagious.
Head Coach Chad Braegelmann

WAYNE STATE COLLEGE

We will be extremely young, but exciting. We are athletic and could be a very strong team by the end of the season.
Head Coach Scott Kneifl
Channatee is a dynamic six rotation player that can contribute in many ways on the court. We are excited to see her take more of a leadership role on this year's team.
Head Coach Scott Kneifl
