He has as much power as any player I've coached and has proven that he can make at bat to at bat adjustments. He's an exceptional young man who represents our program and institution in a first-class manner. Head Coach Tanner Spencer #8 Ashton Michek (LHP, 6-3, 210, Sr., L/L, Bangor, Wis. / Bangor HS) - Augustana University Named NSIC Preseason Pitcher of the Year for second season in a rowTwo-time All-NSIC First Team selectionWent 5-2 in NSIC action with a 3.31 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 20252024 NSIC Pitcher of the Year2024 D2CCA and NCWBA All-Region First Team2024 ABCA All-Region Second TeamHas ranked in the top-5 in NSIC contests in ERA the past two season The expectations are certainly very high for Ashton's final year. He has proven he is one of, if not the best pitchers in the conference and we expect him to have another exceptional year. He has worked exceptionally hard this off-season to take another step forward and I think that will show up for him in the results this spring. Head Coach Tim Huber COACHES' QUOTES & PLAYERS/PITCHERS TO WATCH AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY I'm excited to see what this group can do. I'm going to guess people will underestimate our team this year after losing two junior pitchers to MLB and some really talented offensive seniors. Our guys were really disappointed with how last year ended. We probably underperformed last spring and 2026 is a new year with the opportunity to show what Augustana Baseball is about. Head Coach Tim Huber Carter started slow as a true freshman last year and then heated up as the season went along. He takes good at bats and his combination of power and speed make him a dangerous threat in a line up. I expect him to mature in his second college season and take more consistent at bats and be a middle of the order guy for us. Head Coach Tim Huber The expectations are certainly very high for Ashton's final year. He has proven he is one of, if not the best pitchers in the conference and we expect him to have another exceptional year. He has worked exceptionally hard this off-season to take another step forward and I think that will show up for him in the results this spring. Head Coach Tim Huber BEMIDJI STATE UNIVERSITY We are excited this spring to build off of late last season's success. Our everyday players for the most part are all juniors and seniors respectively which is the first time we've had that in over a decade. The culture on the team is ready and hungry to compete and finally understand what it takes to win in the NSIC. We look to make a huge leap in the conference this season and to prove all of the doubters wrong. Head Coach Matt Ellinghuysen Matt is our most versatile player for us both offensively and on the mound. He has been our most consistent and productive bat in our lineup and holds the most wins since he stepped on campus his freshman year. Filippi is very talented and understands the correct way to play the game. He is a catalyst for us and we look forward to him again being a consistent everyday player we can count on in whatever role we need him in. Head Coach Matt Ellinghuysen We believe Jacob is hitting his stride on the mound and along with the rest of his junior class of pitchers, look to make a huge impact on our team's success. Jacob is a fierce competitor and gives us consistency on the mound. When on, he has some of the best pitch sequencing and stuff on our pitching staff. We look forward to having our younger pitchers learn and grow from Jacob as well as our more veteran arms feeding off and matching his success this spring. Head Coach Matt Ellinghuysen CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, ST. PAUL After being a senior-dominated team for the last two years, our team will have a new and younger look this year. We have a core group of returners who gained valuable experience last year and added a very talented freshman and transfer class this year, one that will include several players who will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on the field. With 17 new players on our roster, we have been impressed with how the team has meshed and how the guys have worked the last several months. We look forward to seeing them compete this spring. Head Coach Neil Lerner Since transferring to CSP after two years at a junior college, Charlie immediately became a leader on our team. On the field, he is a high-IQ player who has a tremendous skill set. He is a plus defender at first base and is a threat to do damage every time he is at the plate. He has a high level work ethic that rubs off on his teammates and always pushes them to be their best. Head Coach Neil Lerner Although this is Sam's first year with our team, he has quickly earned the respect and trust of his teammates and coaches. He has had success pitching at the D1 level, and his impressive skill set on the mound should set him up to be the leader on our pitching staff this year. Sam leads by example with a maturity and work ethic that has already made a big impact on our team during his short time in our program. Head Coach Neil Lerner UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN We are excited about our first year in the NSIC. We are a young and hungry team with something to prove, and we are looking forward to the challenge of playing DII baseball. Head Coach Tom Hager Jett is a very talented middle infielder who can defend at a high level and is a leader of our team. He will hit in the top of our order and can take over a game with his relentlessness at the plate and his speed on the bases. Head Coach Tom Hager Ben is our closer. He loves having the ball at the end of the game and thrives on high pressure situations. He is also an incredible athlete and can really field his position. Head Coach Tom Hager UNIVERSITY OF MARY We return a good portion of our production from the last several years and feel confident in some impactful first year players. Our young men understand and continue to raise the standard within our program. Excited to see the development and competitiveness in spring! Head Coach Tanner Spencer Isaac is the returning NSIC Player of the Year. He has as much power as any player I've coached and has proven that he can make at bat to at bat adjustments. He's an exceptional young man who represents our program and institution in a first-class manner. Head Coach Tanner Spencer Aiden returns for his second year with us. We are looking for him to anchor our rotation and build off of a strong first year. He has unique stuff and has proven to be ultra-competitive. An exceptional representative of our program and institution. Head Coach Tanner Spencer UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CROOKSTON This year team's will be exciting to watch. We have a bunch of guys that will do whatever it takes to be successful. They have a team-first mentality and are competitive. I feel we have the tools on both sides of the ball and some potential high-end talent on the mound and in the field. We have a great mix of returners, transfers and some really talented freshmen. Most importantly, we have guys that value relationships and will do whatever it takes to move this program forward. Head Coach Steve Gust Aaron has the tools, athleticism, size, intelligence and desire to have a big year for us. He has steadily shown improvement his first two years and has the ability to be a great all-around player. More important than his tools, he is a proven winner that puts the team ahead of any of his individual goals. Head Coach Steve Gust Isaac has some good tools as a pitcher, but what makes him special is his competitiveness. He seems to give us a chance to win every time we give him the ball. He commands a variety of pitches in and out of the strike zone. Again, his biggest strength is his competitiveness and winning mindset. Head Coach Steve Gust UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH We are excited to see this team build upon last year's improved play. This squad has more experience than our teams the past handful of years which we expect to help with elevating our level of play throughout the season. If our seniors continue to lead, the juniors and sophomores take a step forward in production from last year, and our freshmen provide a boost of energy when called upon then this spring should be highly competitive for UMD Baseball. Head Coach Bob Rients Troy has worked each year to improve every facet of his skillset and we look forward to his best season as a senior. He has become a mainstay in the middle of the lineup with a high on-base percentage while embracing the intense moments of competition. He is fun to be around and is a good role model for younger players searching for ways to make an impact. Head Coach Bob Rients Henry is a very dependable leader and mentor to younger players so his true impact isn't wholly evident by stats. He has improved his ability each season with his junior year's performance being a significant reason we improved our overall record from the previous year. He separates himself from others with his competitive drive and intensity in key moments. Head Coach Bob Rients MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO What excites me most about this team is the balance, a strong core of returners mixed with talented newcomers, including transfers and freshmen. We also have players within our program who have earned the opportunity for bigger roles. Combined with a competitive schedule, it’s a group that will be challenged early and continue to grow throughout the season. Head Coach Matt Magers Lou is a versatile, multi-dimensional player who impacts the game on the mound, in the field, and at the plate. His ability to fill multiple roles provides tremendous value to our roster and lineup flexibility. A middle of the order bat with power and strong baseball instincts, he is a veteran presence who has thrived in big game situations and consistently finds ways to help the team win. Head Coach Matt Magers Sam is a level headed, experienced competitor who has consistently performed in high leverage situations. He continues to develop each year, showing growth both physically and in overall pitchability. His presence on the mound elevates those around him, as a trusted arm who leads by example and competes every time out. Head Coach Matt Magers MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY We have good base of returners and a nice mix of new guys also. We are happy to have some guys back from injury that missed parts of last season. The team has put in a ton of work this fall, and we are very excited to go compete this spring. Head Coach Sam Boisner Oscar has been a leader for us on and off the field, always putting in extra work with his teammates. Oscar is a competitor and really enjoys competing with his teams at practice and during the games. He has excelled in the classroom as an Exercise Science major, and we can't wait to see what he accomplishes this spring on the field. Head Coach Sam Boisner During his time with our team, Ayden has proven himself to be an outstanding player who consistently delivers high-quality performances. In addition to his athletic contributions, he is a dedicated student-athlete excelling in his Physical Education major. Ayden possesses a great work ethic and high character; I speak for our entire team that we are all excited to see Ayden compete this season. Head Coach Sam Boisner NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY A good mixture of veteran leadership and young talent is what excites me most about this team. We return a lot of guys with experience in this league both at the plate and on the mound. Combine that with some new faces who will have a big impact on our success. This team has the right attitude and work ethic to compete in this league, and I'm excited to see what we can do in 2026. Head Coach Brandon Kusler Drew brings a lot of experience to the table as he returns for his fourth year. A mainstay at first base and in the heart of our order, Drew's consistency offensively and defensively will be extremely valuable to our team. Benson is coachable and a great teammate, and I'm excited to see him contribute to our team's success this season. Head Coach Brandon Kusler Carson returns for his second year as a go-to arm on our pitching staff. After leading our staff in innings last year, I envision a very similar role for him in 2026. Carson is the ultimate leader on the mound. His competitiveness and work ethic are truly special, and I look forward to watching him lead this staff with a year of experience in the NSIC under his belt. Head Coach Brandon Kusler UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS Expectations our higher than they've been in the past coming off a strong 2025 season. Our pitching staff should be our strong suit. We return our whole starting rotation and our offense, despite graduating some key seniors, I think has a chance to surprise people. The key will be our defense. If we can do that at a high level, we should have a chance to win some ballgames. Head Coach Grant Hieb Mitch has proven in his first two years at the Coo that he is highly motivated both in the classroom and on the field. He had a breakout year at the plate for us last spring and will be a staple in the middle of the lineup again this spring. He's also a very good defensive first baseman. I expect him to have a big impact on our success this upcoming season. Head Coach Grant Hieb It was great to see things start to come together for Jake on the mound last spring. He is an extremely hard worker, and he sets the tone for our pitching staff. He was our ace down the stretch and has carried that into this fall. He strives to get better every day and we expect him to have a big senior year for us. Head Coach Grant Hieb SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY We believe we have a balanced mix of experience (12 seniors) and new talent that should help the Mustangs come spring 2026 as we have graduated a lot of quality players in the last two seasons. We think we return the right play makers and contributors offensively and have some depth on the mound with some promising younger pitchers who have continued to grow here and get better. We know how good the league is consistently and look forward to the challenge! Head Coach Jeremy Ische Levi is a great young man who is very humble and goes about his business the right way. He's the same guy every day and is very level headed. Levi is a big member of our program, a great player on the field, and a tremendous student and we are excited to see him compete his senior year! Head Coach Jeremy Ische Jameson has continued to work on his game and his physicality since becoming a Mustang and is in a good place going into Spring 2026. He has continued to work hard on controlling the game and understanding how to attack certain areas on certain hitters. His arsenal has grown and he has a skill set we are excited to see in game action! Head Coach Jeremy Ische ST. CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY Fortunately, all but one of our returning seniors returned versus entering the transfer portal and we signed one of our best and oldest recruiting classes ever, so we should have the quality upperclassmen depth both on the mound and on the field to be competitive in the NSIC. Head Coach Pat Dolan Liam is a returning NSIC All-Conference player that has played NCAA DI baseball and three years with the Madison Mallards in the NWL. He was elected a captain for his senior year. Head Coach Pat Dolan Bryce is one of our top returning pitchers and is a two year captain. Head Coach Pat Dolan WAYNE STATE COLLEGE This year's team brings experience to the table. Between returners and some transfers, with a mix of some young guys, it has been fun to watch this team grow throughout the offseason. We are also excited about this freshman class who should see a lot of opportunities to compete each weekend. On the pitching side, we should have a lot of depth which we've been lacking in past years. Head Coach Alex Koch Max is a leader on and off the field. He is a true competitor and a cage rat. He is always wanting to better himself and his teammates each and every day. As a Junior, Max has already graduated and will be beginning his Master's degree as a Graduate Assistant in WSC Business department and teaching classes this spring while competing in baseball. Head Coach Alex Koch We've never had this kind of experience on the back end for four straight years. As a closer from day one he stepped on campus as a freshman, he's been our go to guy any time we need him. To handle the workload of being an everyday 3rd baseman and closer, is not an easy task. It takes a special kid like Braden to step into that role and have that work ethic. Head Coach Alex Koch WINONA STATE UNIVERSITY We have a young, energetic, and competitive group that is ready to compete in a very strong baseball league. Head Coach Seth Wing Dylan has a great combination of speed & power, and leads by example on and off the field. He has a professional approach to the game by his daily actions and preparation. I’m excited to see what he can do for our program over the next 3 years. Head Coach Seth Wing Nate emerged last year as a front-line starter in the NSIC after coming off an injury. He got better as the year went on as he worked himself back to a full workload late in the season. He couples excellent stuff with frontline competitiveness, and we look forward to him leading our pitching staff over the next three years! Head Coach Seth Wing #NSICBase
