2026 NSIC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches' Poll 3/19/2026 11:30:00 AM MINNESOTA STATE SELECTED IN NSIC MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD PRESEASON COACHES' POLL BURNSVILLE, Minn. - The 13-time defending NSIC Champions of Minnesota State University, Mankato were picked to win the NSIC in the preseason men's outdoor track & field coaches' poll. The Mavericks received 11 first place votes and tallied 121 points, ranking them ahead of the University of Mary, which was second with 102 points. MSU Moorhead was third with 100 points and the other first place vote. The 2026 NSIC outdoor track & field season gets underway this week with the regular season culminating on Thursday-Saturday, May 7-9 at the NSIC Championships held on the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth. Jared Gregoire (Distance, R-Jr., Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo HS) - MSU Moorhead In 2024, All-NSIC performer in the 1500m, placing third with a finals time of 3:49.36 at the NSIC Outdoor ChampionshipAt 2025 NCAA Indoor Championship, placed fifth in the mile behind a time of 4:12.83Owns the MSUM School record in the indoor mile with a time of 4:00.37Named NSIC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2025-26Won the 2025 NSIC Cross Country Individual Title Jared reestablished himself as one of the top middle-distance runners in Division II this indoor season. After returning from last year’s setback, he captured three NSIC conference titles and qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships in the mile. Jared is a fierce competitor who consistently delivers in championship settings, and we’re excited to see that momentum carry into the outdoor season. Head Coach Ryan Milner Hayden Bills (Throws, So., Rosemount, Minn. / Rosemount HS) - Minnesota State Named 2025-26 NSIC Indoor Field Athlete of the YearWon the shot put at the NSIC Indoor Championships with a mark of 18.41m (60-4.75)Placed 19th in shot put and 20th in discus at the 2025 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships while competing at Arizona State Hayden was the NSIC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, and we are looking forward to adding the discus and hammer during the outdoor season. He finished the indoor season as an All-American in the shot put. Head Coach Mike Turgeon NSIC TEAM ATHLETES TO WATCH & COACHES' QUOTES AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY (4th) The men’s team continues to develop well, with a good mix of both experienced veterans and new up-and-comers. That balance has created a competitive and supportive environment within the group and it’s been encouraging to see the progress across the board. We’re also excited to have a few athletes returning to the mix this spring, along with the opportunity to compete in additional events from what's offered indoors. Head Coach Scott Tanis Bryant scored in both the 1500 and 5K at the NSIC Outdoor Championships last year and has taken positive steps since. He was All-NSIC in cross country during the fall and built on that with NSIC titles in the 5K and 3K this indoor season. I'm excited him to build on that momentum as we enter the 2026 outdoor season. Head Coach Scott Tanis CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, ST. PAUL (9th) What excites me most is the energy we’re bringing from the indoor season and the growth we’ve seen from a relatively young group. A lot of our athletes gained valuable experience indoors, and you could see their confidence building as the season went on. Now we head outdoors with more opportunities across all the events, and I think there’s a lot of potential for this group to take another step forward and put together some really strong performances as the season progresses. Head Coach Sam Kettenhofen Del is already a school record holder, a previous conference champion, and has posted NCAA Provisional Qualifying Marks. After a tough end to the indoor season, he’s coming into this outdoor season healthy and motivated, and we expect him to make a big impact in the sprint events while pushing for another conference title and national-level performances. Head Coach Sam Kettenhofen Carter's definitely one to watch in the hammer throw this season. Coming off an All-Conference performance during the indoor season, he is carrying a lot of momentum into the outdoor campaign. With this being his final outdoor season, he’s motivated to build on that success and position himself for another strong conference showing and a push toward the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Head Coach Sam Kettenhofen UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN (t-11th) After gaining valuable experience at our first NSIC Track & Field Championship this indoor season, we are excited to build off of that performance during outdoor season. Our team makeup is typically better suited to the outdoor track & field events so we look forward to getting more of our athletes into their primary events during outdoor & continuing to build for the future with a young squad! Head Coach Jarvis Jelen Noah was our top men's placer on the track from the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships. As a freshman, he has been growing in fitness, confidence, & racing ability with each subsequent season. I fully intend this growth to continue into outdoor season & for him to be competitive in NSIC distance races! Head Coach Jarvis Jelen Ashton comes into the outdoor season fresh off of a runner-up finish & school record in the Long Jump at the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships. He is continuously improving & I fully expect him to contend with the top Long Jumpers in the NSIC this outdoor season! Head Coach Jarvis Jelen UNIVERSITY OF MARY (2nd) The men's team is built more for the outdoor season. With the number of events that we thrive in during the outdoor track and field season, we look to take advantage. Our men competed well, with an injury-filled indoor season. I look forward to getting the group healthy and finishing the year strong. Head Coach Cale Korbelik Nathan had a great Freshman season during the indoor season. His improvements have been dedicated to his hard work and dedication to his craft. I think Nathan has a lot of untapped potential still in him, and outdoor will be a great time to see what he can do in various events in the sprints and long sprints. Head Coach Cale Korbelik Sean is the leader of our Team. He has grown greatly in his time at U-Mary as a student, athlete, and leader. Sean's best season is outdoor, where he thrives in the Discus, Hammer, and Javelin. We look forward to his chances to do great things at the conference and possibly national meet this outdoor. Our men's team will lean on his leadership as well throughout the year. Head Coach Cale Korbelik UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH (8th) We are excited to see our men's program take a step forward after a successful indoor season by many metrics, including school records and points scored in the NSIC Indoor championships. This group of men is motivated to make each other better everyday, and as coaches, we have great belief in their strong community translating to even stronger competitive performances. Head Coach Karly Brautigam Billy enters his second outdoor season as a five-time NSIC scorer and one of the conference favorites in the 400m following an NCAA provisional qualifying performance during the indoor season. His versatility across the sprint events will have a significant impact for the Bulldogs this spring. We’re excited to see Billy continue his development as a dominant long sprinter. Head Coach Karly Brautigam Will is one of the most accomplished triple jumpers in the NSIC and is coming off the best season of his career this past indoor. He has made a significant impact on the jumps program at UMD while also being one of the most supportive teammates on the roster. We are grateful for Will’s continued pursuit of excellence throughout his time as a Bulldog. As we were putting our team together, we felt it would be even better suited for the outdoor season. Our coaching staff has believed all season that our outdoor team would be stronger than our indoor team, and we are looking forward to what this season has to offer. Head Coach Mike Turgeon Rinaldo is coming off a First Team All-American performance indoors in the 60m hurdles. We are looking forward to adding the 400m hurdles along with the 110m hurdles this outdoor season. We’re building off the momentum of a very strong indoor season, and there’s a lot of belief within the group right now. Our athletes gained valuable championship experience indoors, and we’re excited to see that confidence carry over into the outdoor season. He ranked among the top shot putters in NCAA Division II and continues to establish himself as one of the premier throwers in the NSIC heading into the outdoor season. Head Coach Ryan Milner MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY (t-11th) The progress of this group is the exciting part of this team. I have only been here a short time but have seen solid progress. We are smaller in numbers right now but I feel this group is doing some good things to help with that charge moving forward. Head Coach Erik Stevens Peyton is a blue collar kid! Just knows how to work. He has a lot ahead of him even though this is his last season. He has taken some great things out of his indoor season and I know will put those lessons into practice as we attack the outdoor campaign. Head Coach Erik Stevens Brayan is an explosive talent. He has the ability to pop a big mark at any given point in a competition. He is a gamer. Going into the indoor LJ competition he was sitting at 18th and did what he is capable of to make a final and finish on the podium. Head Coach Erik Stevens NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY (5th) The men's team is coming off a great performance from last season, getting 3rd back-to-back years was a great accomplishment. They have great potential to be a better outdoor team. We will look to our field event squad to score some big points for us this outdoor season. Head Coach Lynne Dingman Chris had a great indoor season where he ran to a dominate finish in the men's 60 meters at the NSIC Championships. He and our 4X100 team is excited to get on a big track and run the relay. We expect Chris to have a great outdoor season! Head Coach Lynne Dingman Jayden concluded the NSIC Championships with a big jump in the LJ to secure the top podium finish. He is a returning All-American in the LJ from the 2025 Outdoor season. We expect Jayden to continue to leap to new heights this outdoor season in both the long jump and triple jump. Head Coach Lynne Dingman UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS (6th) Our men's team had a great indoor season. We capitalized in some areas at the NSIC Indoor Championships and worked ourselves into a 5th place finish. The Coo are carrying a lot of energy and excitement into the outdoor season. It's a young team that will rely heavily on underclassmen to perform. Head Coach Eric Chilson Brandon is coming off a great indoor season where he was a part of the School Record 4x400 that was the NSIC runner-up. He was also All-Conference indoors in the 600. Brandon’s strong leadership and commitment to the process sets the him and his teammates up for a successful outdoor season. Head Coach Eric Chilson Jonny has had a tremendous indoor season. He has shown consistent growth in the combined events and has established himself as one of the top Combined Event athletes in D2. He set a school record indoor in the Heptathlon and was NSIC Runner-up, earning an appearance at NCAA D2 Nationals. Head Coach Eric Chilson SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY (10th) We have a youth movement on our team with a large contingent of freshmen and sophomores leading the way. They are excited to get outside and see what they can do. Head Coach Kirk Nauman Brad had a breakout freshman indoor season breaking the SMSU 60 M record and placing 4th in the same event at the NSIC Indoor Championships. He is excited to see what outdoor has in store for him Head Coach Kirk Nauman Colton had a big indoor campaign in which he broke the SMSU record in the long jump and had a NCAA Provisional mark in the Triple Jump. He was a finalist in both events at the NSIC Indoor Championships where he placed 4th in the triple jump. Head Coach Kirk Nauman WAYNE STATE COLLEGE (7th) The men's team improved over our performance last year at the NSIC Indoor Championships. We may have a shot to do that again during the outdoor season. We had several new people that contributed points during the indoor season this year. If all works out again, we have a shot to do that again during the outdoor season. Head Coach Marlon Brink Mitchell had a tremendous freshman year last year, setting records for us in both the 100 and 200 meter dash events. He had a few setbacks during indoors which hampered his indoor season. I think he will be ready to go for outdoor and that should make things exciting. He will be an important part of the teams success this spring! Head Coach Marlon Brink Cain is a very explosive athlete as he showed during the indoor season tying the WSC school record in the high jump. He earned NSIC All-Conference honors during the indoor season and qualified for the NCAA Indoor National Meet. I think he has some high goals set for himself during the outdoor season.
