2026 NSIC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches' Poll 3/19/2026 11:00:00 AM MINNESOTA STATE CLAIMS TOP SPOT IN NSIC WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD PRESEASON COACHES' POLL BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Minnesota State University, Mankato was picked to win the NSIC in the preseason women's outdoor track & field coaches' poll. The Mavericks received 14 first place votes and tallied 196 points, ranking them ahead of second place University of Mary. The Marauders had 183 points and the other first place vote (coaches cannot vote for their own team). Augustana was third with 155 while Winona State was fourth with 152 points.The 2026 NSIC outdoor track & field season gets underway this week with the regular season culminating on Thursday-Saturday, May 7-9 at the NSIC Championships held on the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth. She is coming off a national championship in the long jump and a national runner-up finish in the pentathlon. Head Coach Mike Turgeon NSIC ATHLETES TO WATCH & COACHES QUOTE AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY (3rd) Our women’s team saw a number of underclassmen take significant steps forward during the indoor season and it will be exciting for new names to emerge as move through the outdoor campaign. That growth, combined with the steady leadership and contributions of our veteran athletes, has us trending in a positive direction as we head into the spring. Head Coach Scott Tanis Ellen had a breakout indoor season, earning All-NSIC honors in the 60 and 200 while also setting school records in the 60 and long jump. I have no doubt that she will make an impact for us in multiple events during the outdoor season as well and that she will continue to be a positive presence for our entire roster. Head Coach Scott Tanis Ashton has made tremendous progress during her time at Augustana and earned her first All-NSIC honors this indoor season with a runner-up finish in the pentathlon. In the process, she also qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, gaining valuable experience competing at the national level. We look forward to her building on that progress as we move into the outdoor season. Head Coach Scott Tanis BEMIDJI STATE UNIVERSITY (11th) We are returning some athletes in the mid-distance and distance events that will provide a lot of leadership for this outdoor season while closing in on national qualifying marks. Our throws crew is young, but has made significant improvements over last year and have the potential for some long throws. Everyone is hoping for a mild spring so we can have some weather for quality performances! Head Coach Michael Lynch Sophie is coming off indoors with a big event win in the 1000m. She has made major strides this season with what she can accomplish. Sophie has her eyes set on a school record in the 800 and a place in the finals at conference in the 800m. Head Coach Mike Lynch Trista returns this season after scoring in the javelin last season at the NSIC Championships. She has continued to improve this year in the shot put and discus this year and hopes to be able to make the NSIC Outdoor Finals in all three events. Head Coach Mike Lynch CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, ST. PAUL (9th) What excites me most is the progress our group made during the indoor season, especially with so many athletes putting together strong performances and setting personal bests. We have a group that continues to grow in confidence and consistency, and that’s been really encouraging to see. As we move outdoors, there are exciting possibilities across all of the events, and I think this team has the potential to take another step forward as the season gets underway. Head Coach Sam Kettenhofen Nyadio is definitely someone to watch for us this outdoor season. As a school record holder in multiple events and coming off a conference runner-up finish during the indoor season, she’s consistently proven she can compete at a high level. With this being the final chapter of a really decorated career, she’s motivated to finish strong and we’re excited to see what she can accomplish this outdoor season. Head Coach Sam Kettenhofen Mehlayna is someone we’re really excited about in the combined events this outdoor season. She earned All-Conference honors during the indoor season, hit an NCAA provisional score, and made significant strides across each of the event disciplines. That kind of progress has built a lot of momentum for her, and we’re looking forward to seeing her continue that growth as she pushes towards a very successful outdoor campaign. Head Coach Sam Kettenhofen UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN (13th) After gaining valuable experience at our first NSIC Track & Field Championship this indoor season, we are excited to build off of that performance during outdoor season. Our team makeup is typically better suited to the outdoor track & field events so we look forward to getting more of our athletes into their primary events during outdoor & continuing to build for the future with a young squad! Head Coach Jarvis Jelen Lydia was our top placer on the track at the NSIC Indoor TF Championship & I expect her to be very competitive in the conference this outdoor season. She is still young & gaining valuable experience & we are still figuring out what her primary events will be this season. She's committed to doing everything it takes to be successful & I'm excited to see where that takes her in the future! Head Coach Jarvis Jelen Brenna is coming off of an excellent performance at the NSIC ITF Championship, with a personal best & 4th place finish in the Shot Put. She been a great representative for our program during her career as a Jimmie & I look forward to watching her continue to excel during her last season in our program! The group is extremely hard-working, motivated to improve, and extremely supportive of one another. Their team culture is what makes them great. This outdoor looks to be a great season for the women as they get to add events that fit their strengths the most. She has come a long way since starting at UMary and balances her intense Nursing school with being a multi-event athlete. Anna is working hard to build one last great season for her career. Head Coach Cale Korbelik UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH (5th) Our women are coming off of the most successful team performance in years this indoor season. We have the opportunity to take another step forward and take advantage of depth on the track. Our coaching staff is continuously impressed with the work ethic of this group, and their ability to pull each other along to greater performances. Head Coach Karly Brautigam Maddie ran the fastest 800m time in the NSIC during the indoor season and ranked third in the mile, establishing herself as one of the conference’s top middle-distance runners heading into the outdoor season. We’re incredibly excited to see how she finishes her track and field career and are grateful for the dedication she has shown in helping elevate UMD’s middle-distance program. Head Coach Karly Brautigam Lily returns as a scorer in the long jump at the NSIC Outdoor conference championships. Lily is a dynamic athlete for the Bulldogs, as a NSIC scorer in the short hurdles events as well. We look forward to watching Lily return to the outdoor season and take another step forward, as she has continually done during her career. Head Coach Karly Brautigam MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO (1st) We are looking forward to improving on our fifth-place finish at the Indoor National Championships. Our women’s team wants to build on our late-season indoor success as we come off our sixth straight year finishing in the top five in the nation. Head Coach Mike Turgeon Esaba improved drastically during the indoor season, and we are looking forward to seeing what she can put together during the outdoor season. She is coming off a national championship in the long jump and a national runner-up finish in the pentathlon. Head Coach Mike Turgeon MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MOORHEAD (10th) What excites me most about this year’s women’s team is the potential within a young and developing group. We have a number of athletes who made significant progress during the indoor season, and that experience has built a lot of confidence moving forward. It’s a group that’s continuing to grow, and we’re excited to see that development translate into strong performances outdoors. Head Coach Ryan Milner Christalea continues to show steady growth as a collegiate athlete. During the indoor season she gained valuable racing experience while setting personal bests in both the 400m and 60m, which was exciting to see. She’s a driven and coachable athlete who continues to develop, and we believe she’s only beginning to tap into her potential as we head into the outdoor season. Head Coach Ryan Milner Kiley showed tremendous development throughout the indoor season, and it was great to see that progress culminate in an All-Conference performance in the shot put. She continues to improve technically and competitively, and we’re excited about the momentum she’s carrying into the outdoor season. Head Coach Ryan Milner MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY (14th) The energy that we are bringing to the table. I am hoping to reinvigorate this program and allow us to become what we know we can be! This group is helping with the foundation of that plan. Head Coach Erik Stevens Bailey was able to work through some not so ideal situations late in the indoor season to put herself in the final of the 1k and finish on the podium. She has a great attitude every day that she steps in the building! I know that she will continue to bring the best to the track and allow herself to mix it up with the best in the conference. Head Coach Erik Stevens Afton continued to progress through the indoor season with season best marks and almost matching an all time PB at the conference meet. Was bordering on making the finals for the women's' triple jump. Head Coach Erik Stevens NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY (6th) Our women's team has a good mixture of experienced upperclassman and youth. We will be well-rounded team this outdoor season. We expect our field event squads to have a strong showing this spring. We are looking forward to see what they can do. Head Coach Lynne Dingman Renea is entering into her final season for the Wolves. We expect her to be a high contender in the sprint and hurdle events. She is coming off a great indoor season, where she qualified for the National Meet in the 60m. She is in great shape and looking to return to the National Meet in the 400 Hurdles this season. Head Coach Lynne Dingman Bekah had an amazing indoor season where she captured the top of the podium in the vault at the NSIC Championships and qualified for the National Meet. We anticipate her to keep the momentum going into the outdoor season. We are excited to see her jump new heights this outdoor season. Head Coach Lynne Dingman UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS (7th) The energy that we are bringing to the table. I am hoping to reinvigorate this program and allow us to become what we know we can be! Head Coach Eric Chilson Tamia is the returning school record holder in the 100m dash and 4x100, three-time NSIC 100m placer, and two time NCAA D2 National Qualifier. She is coming off a great indoor season where she captured the 60m NSIC title. Her consistence growth and work ethic sets the tone for the Cougar women. Head Coach Eric Chilson Peyton has been a consistent performer for the Cougars. She has scored at the NSIC Championships in the pole vault every indoor and outdoor season since her freshmen year as well as hitting numerous Provisional Qualifying marks. She brings confidence and consistency that our women will rely on. Head Coach Eric Chilson SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY (15th) We have a youth movement on our team with a large contingent of freshmen and sophomores leading the way. They are excited to get outside and see what they can do. Head Coach Kirk Nauman Michelle had a great indoor season with school records in the 60 M and the pole vault. She will be a looking for more of the same as we head to the outdoor season in the sprints, vault and relays. Head Coach Kirk Nauman A healthy Seely came on strong during the indoor season to score in the weight throw at the NSIC Indoor Championships. With the opportunity of four throwing events outdoors, she is looking forward to excelling in them. Head Coach Kirk Nauman ST. CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY (12th) We’re excited about the momentum our group is building. This team has shown a strong commitment to the process and continues to compete for one another. I’m looking forward to seeing how the Huskies build on the progress we made during the indoor season as we head into outdoor competition. Head Coach Gabrielle Brown Efe has made a strong impression in her first year with our program. She shows up every day ready to work, brings great energy to practice, and is constantly looking for ways to improve. Her work ethic and willingness to learn have made her someone we’re excited to watch continue developing throughout the outdoor season. Head Coach Gabrielle Brown Lauren made an immediate impact for us during the indoor season, scoring at the NSIC Championships while also competing in swim and dive. We’re excited to see what she can do this outdoor season now that she’s able to focus fully on track and continue building on the progress she showed indoors. Head Coach Gabrielle Brown WAYNE STATE COLLEGE (8th) Our women's team is coming off a much improved NSIC Indoor Championship season than the last year. We have a lot of young and talented athletes who can help contribute to the team point totals, which is really what it is about. There should be plenty of individual highlights throughout the season, but hopefully even more team highlights come NSIC Championship time. Head Coach Marlon Brink Reagan is a relentless competitor, who is always pushing herself to be at her best. She is very passionate about her events and is always striving to do better than the day before. I think based on the success that she had during the indoor season, she is poised to have an even better outdoor season. I love her competitive desire and can't wait to see what she can do this spring. Head Coach Marlon Brink Olivia is coming off of her best indoor season ever with 2 NSIC All-Conference performances in the shot put and weight throw. I think being a senior will help her with the knowledge and experience that it takes to reach her best for the NSIC Championships. I think she has the fire in her to be an NSIC Champion this spring! Head Coach Marlon Brink WINONA STATE UNIVERSITY (4th) We have an incredibly talented, hard-working group of young ladies. Together they put together an incredible indoor season culminating in a 3rd place finish at the NSIC Indoor Championships. They work hard and enjoy being around one another. They also support each other so well in practice, in meets, and in life. Head Coach Mason Rebarchek Ella is the returning NSIC champion in the Steeplechase and has only improved this year. She's a hard worker. She always brings a great attitude and is excited about the sport and her teammates. Head Coach Mason Rebarchek Ella tied for the 8th best Triple Jump in NCAA II during the 2026 Indoor season. She also was 31st in the Long Jump. Even as a freshman, you can see that she is a leader.
