NSIC sends three to NCAA Central Region Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS - The NSIC will have three teams extend their season at the NCAA Central Region tournament.  St. Cloud State (46-13) earned the fifth seed, Winona State (48-9) the sixth seed and Augustana (30-26) the eighth seed as the brackets were announced Monday morning.

Augustana will take on host and top-seed Missouri Southern State in the opening round while St. Cloud State will take on fourth seeded Southern Arkansas.  On the other side of the bracket, which will be hosted by Pittsburg State, Winona State will take on third-seeded Central Oklahoma.  

Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in a doubleelimination tournament. The 16 teams advancing from regional competition will participate in a two-team, best-of-three super regional at eight sites. The finals will include the eight super regional winners. The national champion will be determined in a best-of-three final series.  The Central Region is made up of schools from the NSIC, the MIAA and the GAC.

The Winona State softball team received the six-seed in the Central Region of the NCAA Tournament and will play three-seed Central Oklahoma on Thursday, May 14th at 5:30pm in Pittsburg, Kansas. The Warriors earned the No. 6 seed in the Central Region after holding a 48-9 record on the season and reaching the NSIC Tournament semifinals. This will be WSU's 15th NCAA Tournament appearance as the Warriors hold a 29-28 record in the NCAA Tournament and one Regional Championship. Winona State holds an 8-4 record against teams in the tournament with wins this season against, Pittsburg State, Charleston, Findlay, West Chester, St. Thomas Aquinas, Augustana and St. Cloud State.

Fresh off claiming the NSIC Tournament Championship, Augustana will travel to Joplin, Missouri, for Central Region Pod No. 1, hosted by top-seeded Missouri Southern. This is Augustana's third consecutive season advancing to NCAA regional play. 

The Huskies advance to NCAA regional play for the first time since 2019 and the 11th time in program history.

The 64-team championship field will start with regionals on May 14 and super regionals on May 21.  The NCAA Championships are set for May 28 to June 3 at  Frost Stadium at Warner Park, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
