SEASON PREVIEWS & ATHLETES TO WATCH

AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY

Our men performed well last fall despite their youth and the fact that many were competing at the NSIC, regional, and national meets for the first time. I’m excited to see how they draw on those experiences and continue building on the foundation they established last fall.
Head Coach Scott Tanis

Head Coach Jonathan Breitbarth

UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN

This team is hungry and has been training at a higher level than in any of the previous years that I've been here. We are now a bit older, more mature, and much more prepared to handle 8k/10k races. The guys are excited to pack up and have a great year as a team!
Head Coach Jarvis Jelen

Head Coach Jarvis Jelen

UNIVERSITY OF MARY

The men's team is off and training exceptionally well and working together to get there. They are hungry to move up in the conference this year and if we continue to see what we have seen this summer, they may very well do so!
Head Coach Cale Korbelik
Gideon has been working extremely hard this offseason! He has been a great teammate and pushing the guys to their peak potential every step of the way. His dedication this off season will truly show this XC season.
Head Coach Cale Korbelik

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CROOKSTON

Our men’s team made a huge jump at the NSIC Championship in 2025 and set a school record for highest team placement. Even though we graduated three key contributors, we have a solid core group of returners and added four talented incomers. This team has never backed down from a challenge, and I expect this year to be no different. Hopefully we can send our three seniors, Lane Hoefs, Riley Hanson, and Zach Hanson, out on a high note as they have helped build this program from the ground up. I am excited to see what the team will be able to accomplish this season!
Head Coach Steven Krouse
When Riley and his brother Zach committed here, we were coming off a last place finish in the NSIC. Riley took a chance on us and throughout his career helped the team rise all the way into the top five. Riley shows up to practice every day with a competitive mindset and leads his teammates by example. Following another summer of hard work, I am looking forward to seeing what Riley is able to accomplish his senior year!
Head Coach Steven Krouse

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH

The Bulldogs return a ton of great talent and potential for this fall. We are ready to capitalize on every competitive opportunity with men who have gained a ton of experience throughout the last year. This group is exciting to watch and I'm looking forward to how we progress through the season!
Head Coach Brette Jensen
Isaac was a super consistent performer for us all of last year. With a great freshman year under his belt and more racing experience, he is primed and ready to be at the top of the conference this fall. Isaac brings consistency and great work ethic to every practice and competition. I'm excited to see how he progresses this fall!
Head Coach Brette Jensen

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, MANKATO

What excites me most about our men's cross country team this year is the combination of youth, hunger, and belief. We have a young group that's eager to prove itself, and they've put together a tremendous summer of training. Our returners gained valuable experience last season, and our newcomers have added quality depth and competition throughout the roster. This group genuinely enjoys working hard and pushing each other every day. I think we're building something special, and I'm excited to see how that hard work translates once we get to race this fall.
Head Coach Ben Held
Keep an eye on sophomore Jack Kendall this season. After earning All-NSIC Second Team honors as a freshman, Jack established himself as one of the conference's top young distance runners. He finished 13th at the NSIC Cross Country Championships and led the Mavericks at the NCAA Central Regional, placing 60th. With a collegiate-best 25:11 for 8K and another year of experience under his belt, solid summer training blocks, Jack is poised to take another step forward and should be a strong contender for All-Conference honors this fall.
Head Coach Ben Held

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MOORHEAD

Our men's team is poised for a strong 2026 campaign. We have the returning NSIC Champion, Jared Gregoire back, along with most of our 2025 roster returning. On top of that, we're welcoming a talented group of freshmen and transfers who are ready to compete for spots in our top seven.
Head Coach Ryan Milner
Chase had an exceptional 2025, earned All-NSIC honors in cross country, and he’s just continued to get better from there. I'm expecting him to build on the 2025-26 seasons and race at an even higher level this fall.
Head Coach Ryan Milner

MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY

For me personally, I am excited to see the kind of growth and maturity that we have as a group. I believe that we have two solid leaders upfront that will be great examples for our young guys. I have only been here a very short time and this is the first full season running the cross country program so I am excited to get to work and see what we can accomplish.
Head Coach Erik Stevens
Holter had a strong 2026 Outdoor season and we are looking to build off of that. Holter is someone that is always excited to get to work and do whatever it takes in order to see that work pay off. He is a great young man and takes care of the things that he needs to take care of on the track and in the classroom. He is someone that you look forward to coaching everyday because you know the type of drive that he has.
Head Coach Erik Stevens

NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY

I'm most excited about our incoming freshmen and the energy they'll bring to the team. I think they'll push our older athletes to keep improving while adding to our positive team culture. Everyone seems dedicated, ready to put in the work, and eager to have fun along the way.
Head Coach Lynne Dingman
Patrick is incredibly dedicated to running and has really taken his training to the next level this summer. He is also the glue of the boys' squad, bringing the team together with his positive attitude and leadership. His teammates naturally gravitate toward him, and he has become an important part of our team's culture.
Head Coach Lynne Dingman

UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS

The USF Cougars enter the 2026 cross country season with an experienced, senior-heavy roster and high expectations. This veteran group has spent years building, providing strong leadership and setting the standard for our younger athletes. Many of our returners have gained valuable championship experience on both the cross country course and the track. As we look ahead to the season, our focus is on maximizing the experience of this group, continuing to improve each week, and competing at our highest level when championship season arrives.
Head Coach Eric Chilson
Owen has continued to develop throughout his time at USF and is ready to take another step forward this cross country season. He has been a consistent contributor for our program and has put together an outstanding offseason. I'm excited to see Owen embrace a bigger role this year and continue building on the tradition of excellence within our program.
Head Coach Eric Chilson

SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY

We return 6 of our top 7 from last year which had shown a lot of improvement as the season progressed. I am looking for more of the same this season.
Head Coach Kirk Nauman
Matthew comes off a strong season that included running the fastest 8,000 M by a SMSU freshman. His track & field season was highlighted by encouraging 1500 M and Steeplechase performances. Matthew is a hard worker with grit. I am excited to see the progress he will continue to make as a sophomore.
Head Coach Kirk Nauman

WAYNE STATE COLLEGE

We have a small, but dedicated group of guys that are young and have a lot of energy. They are eager to get better and want to make a name for themselves. I think as the season goes on, we will see them continue to evolve in their level of competitiveness.
Head Coach Marlon Brink
Lucas had a very solid freshman year and made very good progress as the year went along in both cross country and the track season. He is extremely hard working and is putting in the work to make himself the best that he can be. I think based on how he finished up the track season, he is ready to take another step forward and be a leader on our team as well as one to challenge for a potential all-NSIC ranking.
Head Coach Marlon Brink

WINONA STATE UNIVERSITY
