BURNSVILLE, Minn. - The 2019 NSIC Cross Country Championships will take place in Wayne, Nebraska on Saturday, October 26 at Wayne Country Club, hosted by Wayne State College. The women’s 6,000-meter race is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the men’s 8,000-meter race at 12:15 p.m. The women’s race will have 16 teams competing while 14 teams will run in the men’s race. Fans can follow the action via social media (
#NSICCC) and via a
finish line webstream.
On the women’s side there will be two top 10 teams in the nation squaring off. The three-time defending NSIC Champions from the University of Mary are ranked ninth in the nation while Augustana University is fourth in the latest
USTFCCA Top 25 rankings. NSIC Preseason Athlete of the Year
Ida Narbuvoll of UMary finished second at last year's championship and will be a favorite as she is undefeated in three races this fall, including earning three NSIC Athlete of the Week honors and one USTFCCA National Runner of the Week honor. She will be joined by returning First Team All-NSIC performers Taylor Hestekin (4th), Kate Fox (6th) and Bree Erickson (7th). Augustana returns first team All-NSIC runners Mackenzie Kelly (8th) and Nicolette Schmidt (10th) from last season.
On the men's side, the University of Sioux Falls ended Augstana's nine year run of NSIC team Championships last season as the Cougars took home top honors. Both teams are ranked in the top 15 of the
USTFCCA Top 25 as Augie is seventh and USF is 15th.
The last two NSIC individual champions will be running for the Cougars as Steven Brown, 2018 champion, and Mason Phillips, 2017 champion, are back. The Cougars also have Zach Lundberg returning after his third place finish from last season's NSIC Championships. Augustana returns two All-NSIC first team performers from last season in Jesus Urtusuastegui (7th) and Aaron Runge (9th).
As part of the NSIC Community Engagement initiatives, six NSIC cross country will visit local elementary schools on Friday, October 25 to interact with the students. Concordia-St. Paul, Upper Iowa and Wayne State will all be a part of the community engagement initiative.
The NCAA Cross Country Regional will take place in Joplin, Missouri on Saturday, Nov. 9th. The NCAA DII National Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, November 23 at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, Calif.
