NSIC Wrestler of the Week
James Burks (165 lbs., So., Omaha, Neb. / Harry A. Burke HS) - Northern State
- Scored an upset victory over No. 9 Braydon Huber of UMary in a 26-6 dual win
- Pinned the redshirt sophomore at 4:29 in the match
- Led 5-4 in the match prior to the pin
- The victory by fall gave Northern a 21-0 lead in the dual
- Helped NSU to its first NSIC Championship since 2002
Other Top Performances
Dylan Schuck (AUGIE) defeated MSU Moorhead’s Braydon Ortloff with a 9-3 decision in Augustana’s dual with the Dragons. He logged a takedown, a reversal and four near fall points in the bout.
Kyle Rathman (MSU) rated second in country, stayed undefeated for the year and is now 6-0 with a 16-4 major decision over Nathan Hensley in helping No. 10 Minnesota State to 20-15 win over No. 22 UW-Parkside. He upped his career record to 63-19 with win.
Jordan Will (MISU) had a dual-winning fall to lift the Beavers past Southwest Minnesota State University 20-17. Will was #3 ranked in the Super Region and #10 in the nation at 285 lbs. His opponent was ranked 4th in the Region. Will improved to 5-1 with the victory.
Jackson Ryan (SMSU) secured his fifth victory with a win against MISU’s Noe Garcia in a 3-1 decision. Ryan will go into the Super Region V tournament undefeated at 197.
Colby Njos (SCSU) defeated No. 3 Chase Luensman of Upper Iowa. He beat Luensman by decision 9-7 for his first career victory over a ranked opponent. Njos is currently unranked with a 2-1 season record at 157. No. 1 St. Cloud State defeated No. 19 Upper Iowa 33-6 to clinch its 10th straight NSIC Regular season title (co-champs with NSU). It was also the team’s 69th consecutive dual win, which ranks fourth all-time amongst all NCAA Divisions for unbeaten streaks.
Next action for NSIC Wrestling is at the NCAA Super Region V Championship on Feb. 27 in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
