BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Commissioner Erin Lind presented the University of Minnesota Duluth Director of Athletics Forrest Karr with the league’s 2023-24 Sportsmanship Award during the NSIC Hall of Fame banquet Tuesday evening. This marks the first time that the Bulldogs have earned the honor.

The NSIC Sportsmanship Award is voted on by the NSIC head coaches and a Student Athlete Advisory Committee member based on the sportsmanship of players, fans, staff and coaches at each opposing NSIC institution.  Sportsmanship is defined as: “A set of behaviors to be exhibited by student-athletes, coaches, officials, administrators and fans in athletic competition. These behaviors are based on values including respect, civility, fairness, honesty and responsibility.”

UMD is one of 10 institutions to be bestowed with this distinct honor. Since its inception in 2007-08, Bemidji State (2008-09, 2010-11, 2013-14), Concordia-St. Paul (2017-18, 2021-22), University of Mary (2009-10), Minnesota Crookston (2014-15), Minnesota Duluth (2023-24), MSU Moorhead (2022-23), Southwest Minnesota State (2012-13 & 2018-19), Upper Iowa (2015-16, 2016-17) and Wayne State (2011-12) have earned the award.
