Brackets and Seeding Policy

  1. The NSIC Basketball Tournament is a twelve-team tournament and will be seeded by division (N 1-6 & S 1-6) using overall conference record (22-games).

The tie-breaking criteria for seeding into the 2023 NSIC/Sanford Health Post-Season Tournament will be as follows (By Division):

  1. Head-to-head. (If a three-way tie, the number of games played between all involved teams must be equal to evaluate using this criteria.)
  2. Divisional win/loss percentage.
  3. Head-to-head competition of descending divisional teams (win/loss record against teams who finished highest in standings). (The number of games played between all involved teams must be equal to evaluate using this criteria.)
  4. Point rating system – divisional conference games only. (Take the total points and divide by the number of divisional games played, as teams may not have equal number of games played).
  5. Head-to-head competition of descending teams using NSIC overall standings (win/loss record against teams who finished highest in standings). (The number of games played between all involved teams must be equal to evaluate using this criteria.)
  6. Point rating system – NSIC overall standings non-divisional games only.
  7. Coin flip.
